Yoga makes everyday better!

06/01/2024

✨️Yoga practice is a microcosm of your entire psychological and spiritual experience. Anything you experience on the mat you are probably experiencing at other places in your everyday life as well. If you find that you judge and criticise yourself during your practice, work too hard, being distracted easily—you are probably experiencing the same issues at other points during your day. Use your yoga practice to learn more about yourself and then find ways to implement your insights at other moments during the day.🙏

This is of great importance! Even if you do basic/beginner yoga and stretching plus some short walks. If you don't do any form of exercise your body/tissues will break down further, and you will get weaker. They even make a portable bike pedal that you can put under a desk or in front of you while you sit in your chair/couch. Also, the pedaler can be put on a table and you can pedal it using your hands, and it strengthens your upper body that way. A good investment.

Personally, I have experienced the loss of muscle mass and tissue strength that comes from being too sedentary. I have Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy now and it's taking a long time to recover. I'm definitely not giving up, though💜

Quote of the day‼️

Photos from Wild Prema Yoga's post 04/24/2024

Today, I am grateful for many wondrous things and people in my life. I've been able to see some beautiful places. It was a deeply joyuous blessing to get to experience the wild nature of this glorious waterfall (shown in the photograph). It was one of many amazing adventure trips I've been able to take with my best little mate.

It's no secret gratitude is the best practice for igniting or reigniting joy in your life. Taking a few moments daily to appreciate the present moment is simple, sweet and powerful nectar for the soul. If you can set aside a few minutes for gratitude in the morning or practice just a few minutes routinely before bed (or both🤭), see how you will gradually begin to feel more refreshed and at ease. You'll notice how peaceful it is knowing Life flows through you!

Anxiety will melt away when you think about what you are grateful for in this moment. It doesn't have to been surmountuous to be enjoyed. Fresh air, the vessel you get to live in, the work you get to complete, the deliciousness of your first morning cup of coffee as the sun rises. All you need is already within you. All is available to you now just as you are. Here is a simple meditation practice to help build your “resilience muscle” and increase JOY now through practicing gratitude.

1. Take some time to place yourself in a comfortable position. Take a few deep breaths and let your chest rise and fall with each inhalation and exhalation. When you are ready, let your eyes drift closed.

2. As you continue to breathe slowly and deeply, let your attention rest gently on your breath. Feeling the movement as it enters and exits your body. Each time you exhale, let go of any tension. Relax your face, your shoulders, your belly, your legs.

3. On your next exhale, settle your attention to the area around your heart. Focus on the feelings of love, compassion, empathy, forgiveness.

4. With your attention on your heart center, bring to mind something or someone you are grateful for.

5. As you continue with your easy, relaxed breathing, perhaps you feel gratitude for being alive, or healthy.

6. Perhaps you are grateful for the abundance of nature that produces food to nourish your body, and beautiful scenery to nourish your soul.

7. Bring your attention to people who truly nourish you in your life and how they bless you with their presence.

8. Feel gratitude for your own life and the many gifts you have been blessed with.

9. Now bring your attention to how this gratitude feels in the area around your heart. With each inhale, let this feeling grow outwards. Expanding to fill your chest, your arms and hands, your legs and feet. With each inhale this feeling grows, filling you up.

10. And now, even as you return your attention to your breath, let your body remember the sensations of your gratitude.

Here's a secret 🌼🏵 life changing drink worth knowing to boost your health!

Golden milk—also known as Haldi doodh (turmeric milk)—is a traditional Indian drink that has recently been gaining popularity in Western cultures, thanks to the increasing visibility of both yoga and Ayurveda in the West. It is often known as golden milk latte or turmeric latte or turmeric tea and is available in many coffee or grocery shops.

This healthy, bright yellow beverage is traditionally made by warming up cow’s milk with turmeric and other spices like cinnamon and ginger. Alternatively, as a vegan variant, you can also make golden milk with a plant-based alternative, like nut milk (almond milk or cashew milk) or coconut milk) or soy milk or oat milk.

Turmeric from Ayurveda point of view
Turmeric, or Curcuma longa-Rhizoma, is also known as Haridrā, which literally means yellow. It is a perennial plant grown throughout Asia and has a signature bright yellow color. Turmeric’s taste (rasa) is pungent, bitter, and astringent. Its energy (virya) is heating, and it has dry and light qualities (gunas). Thus, turmeric contains balancing qualities for all three doshas: its heat balances Vata and Kapha, its dryness and its pungent and bitter tastes balance Kapha, and its bitter taste also balances Pitta, making it tri-doshic!

In order to create an in-home sanctuary in a world of chaos and excess consumerism, the first step is declutterling and removing obstacles. I cannot emphasize enough how much lighter I felt after reorganizing my closet to rebuild an intentional space. In fact, it was a lot like my yoga practice. The clearing and letting go on the mat, easily transforms to purifying your life off the mat.
💟
In order to prepare your space for your carefully curated items, there is the process of emptying that which no longer feels good. Take another look at the items in your space. Does it bring a sense of harmony? Retrain your eye to find and remove the superfluous and agitating. Before acquiring new things that bring relaxation and joy, we must let go of what no longer feels good
💟
Sit with the emptiness and space you created.

Patience, presence, openness, and a calm cool center.

This is love.

This is the dance. 💚💚💚💚💚

What Is the Meaning of Anahata Chakra?
In Sanskrit, anahata means “unstruck” and it describes the Heart Chakra perfectly. Balancing the energy of this chakra enables us to tap into the power of anahata and experience love in its purest form without any attachment or expectation. Therefore, we become "unstuck" from negative emotions, past traumas, and limiting beliefs that may be holding us back.

In this state of openness and vulnerability, we can develop deeper connections with ourselves and others, resulting in more fulfilling relationships and a greater sense of self.

40 Ways Yoga Heals (western ways of knowing)

4. Improves Immune Function. Many yoga practices are likely to improve immune function but, to date, meditation has the strongest scientific support. Meditation appears to increase immunity in instances where that’s helpful, as well as lower it in the case of autoimmune diseases, marked by inappropriately aggressive immune function. In studies, those who listened to a guided meditation tape while they received the standard treatment of ultraviolet light therapy were almost four times as likely to have complete clearing of their skin. The power of that study is that it shows that the mind can influence a healing process all the way down to the level of what has to be gene expression and cell replication. More research examined a group of high-tech workers who learned simple meditation techniques and yoga postures. The group developed a higher level of influenza antibodies in their blood, an indication of better ability to fight infections.

3. Improves Balance. While strength can help a person avoid a fall, you’re also a lot less likely to trip on the way to the bathroom in the middle of the night if you’ve improved your balance by regularly practicing asana like the Tree Pose. Better balance may not seem like a big deal until you consider that falls are a leading cause of hip fractures and can lead to the loss of independence. Yoga also helps you use your body in an overall more balanced way, left to right and front to back, which can help minimize the muscle imbalance that so often leads to bothersome symptoms and injuries.

2. Strengthens Muscles. Muscle weakness contributes to numerous problems, including arthritis, back pain, and falls in the elderly. Many of the physical limitations that people associate with aging, including weakness and progressive disability, are due to a loss of muscle, a condition recently dubbed sarcopenia. Studies have shown that even people in their eighties and beyond can make rapid gains in function when they adopt a regimen to build muscle. Asana practice not only strengthens muscles but does so in a functional way, attending to every area of the body, balancing strength with flexibility. In contrast, some weight lifters have routines that aren’t well balanced and result in uneven strengthening and a loss of flexibility. Similarly, man people do stomach crunches to protect the back but strong abdominal muscles tend to tug the p***c bone up, flattening the lower back, which actually makes some back problems worse. In addition to strengthening muscles, yoga appears to build endurance and delay the onset of fatigue.

40 Ways Yoga Heals (western ways of knowing)

1. Increases Flexibility. Anyone who has ever taken a hatha yoga class knows that yogic postures ask you to stretch in ways you never would have thought of; anyone who has hung in with asana practice has also observed that tight areas open up over time and poses that were once impossible become possible. While it seems obvious, scientific studies have documented the increased flexibility of muscles and the increased range of movement in different joints that come with yoga practice. The question remains: How might this benefit health? Consider just a couple examples from a potentially very long list: A lack of flexibility in the hips can put strain on the knee joint, due to improper alignment of the thigh and shin bones. Back pain can be caused by tightness in the hamstrings—muscles in the back of the thighs—that leads to a flattening of the lumbar spine.
