CELTS Coordinates the following programs:

Adopt-a-Grandparent: 15 – 20 regular weekly volunteers.

The Center for Excellence in Learning Through Service (CELTS) at Berea College educates students for leadership in service and social justice through promotion and coordination of academic service-learning and student-led community service. Monthly Saturday programs at the two local Nursing Homes; weekly individual visits from volunteers

Berea Buddies: 55 children (ages 6-12) and 55 student vol

Berea Kids Eat keeps doing that good work! We are joining forces as they kick-off their summer feeding program with this 🎉🎉PARTY meant for all youth under 18 and their guardians. Stop by the CELTS table where we will share info about our student-led programs, especially Berea Teen Mentoring, Berea Buddies, and CELTS Berea Tutoring! Plus, free grilled cheese for the kids? SOLD. See you there on Tuesday, May 28th, from 11-2PM, at Glades Garden across from Little Caesar's.

A CELTS-sponsored team of faculty and staff attended the Gulf South Summit on Service-Learning and Civic Engagement through Higher Education from April 15 to 17 at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. Ashley Cochrane, Shannon Phelps, Laura Seroka, and Sarah Heggen were inspired and energized by connecting with fellow community-engaged scholars and practitioners from our region. Berea College is a proud member and sponsor of the Gulf South Summit! 🧡🫧

If you want to volunteer with us this semester, make sure to mark your calendars!

🫧 The MANDATORY all-CELTS training will take place on the 23 of January at 5:30 pm in Stephenson Building’s Activities Room on the 2nd floor.

(please note that if you’ve already attended an All-CELTS training last semester- you don’t have to attend this one)

Program Specific Training locations, dates and times:

💙 Habitat for Humanity: Jan 25 and 26, 5-6 pm, Activities Room (only attend one!)

💙 People Who Care: Jan 25, 12 to 7 pm (drop in at any time) on the second floor of Stephenson, Connector space; Jan 26, 9 am to 7 pm (drop in at any time,) same location (only attend one program-specific training with PWC!)
💙 Berea Buddies: Jan 29 and 30, 5-6 pm, Activities Room (only attend one of the meeting times)
💙 Adopt-a-Grandparent: Jan 30, 5-6 pm, Arts & Crafts room in Stephenson Hall
💙 Berea Tutoring: Jan 30 and 31, 5-6 pm, Tutoring room (only attend one of the meeting times)

We’re sending out a big THANK YOU to so many people! Yesterday’s Better Together 5k (and kids dash!) brought together people from infants to 80 years old to help keep food on the shelves of the food bank for the coming months! We’re grateful we got to see ALL Y’ALL demonstrate we really are Better Together!
