Berkeley Downtown Streets Team
Downtown Streets Team
Congratulations to Rhonda for graduating from our Volunteer Program!!! 🎉💛
Rhonda came to DST at the end of 2021 in search for housing. She didn’t know that she would end up finding a community that supported and uplifted her every week!
Since joining our program, Rhonda has obtained housing, claimed self-sufficiency, and volunteered 431 hours of beautifying the streets! 🏠 She most values the community space and daily meaningful activity that we offer. Rhonda wants to continue volunteering and attending our weekly Success Meetings as a DST Graduate. Go Rhonda!!!
La’Shawn is HOUSED! 🏠🎉
La’Shawn has experienced homelessness for almost a decade and was persistent to create a better life for himself. He joined DST Berkeley in January 2022.
After several months of trials and tribulations to get him approved for permanent housing, La’Shawn was able to move into his new apartment with the support of our Case Manager, Sidney. Sidney also helped him bring his belongings, brought him food from our food pantry, and coordinated a move-in kit provided by the Phoenix Room. She will continue to assist him in obtaining other household items and furniture.
He is currently in a culinary training program by that offers him paid kitchen training and an internship in a restaurant. He will gain stability with employment, then move onto his next goal of becoming a Peer Support Counselor in hopes of inspiring and helping others.
Let’s give La’Shawn our well wishes in his new home! ❤️
We’ve been booked and busy here at Downtown Streets Team 🙌 We are super excited to share some updates since the year has begun!
Please give a welcome to our Streets Team Enterprise (STE) Team Leads 💥 This year, we were given the opportunity to hire Team Leads to manage our volunteer program. The positions are paid, transitional employment with case management and employment services to encourage future upward mobility.
