Thanks to the ladies for volunteering to do trail work today out in Joaquin Miller Park!
We had a super fun time working with them. For most of this crew it was their first time doing trail work, but they were naturals. They worked hard today!
The BTCEB trail crew hardened a chronically wet spot on Tree Frog at Crockett Hills this week. This should provide more stability to this section during wetter times. The trail has two more spots in this S turn that are also on the ‘to do’ list.
BTCEB was out on a Thursday workday brushing mustard and thistle. A tenacious crew of 10 made a dent in the lower section of Sugar City. The staff mowing is key but it only goes so far and volunteer hand work deals with the rest. A big thanks to the volunteers that dealt with this and the ticks that call it home.
Signups are open for the May edition of our women's ride series, Ride Like a Girl. If history is anything to go by, it'll be an excellent time!

NICA teams - many of you are looking for trail stewardship opportunities. Here’s a chance and racing is postponed this weekend. We know it’s short notice but opportunity is knocking. Everybody, please pitch in if you can. The work scope for this dig day will help advance a specific mtb access action item in the Roads and Trails Management Plan. Short story is it means more access.

Trail Angels on Cinderella - Bicycle Trails Council Last weekend, an energetic and skilled crew of BTCEB trail angels, led by Director Tom Gandesbery, was at Joaquin Miller Park working on the Cinderella Trail. Cinderella, or Cindy to her friends, is one of the funnest and most challenging narrow trails in the whole Bay Area. Cindy is fast and flowy,...
This is a great opportunity to support . JMLT protects open space and shows conversation and access are complimentary. This trail work will improve the Canyon Loop by replacing a chronically wet section of fire road with a more recreation friendly single track. Volunteer for one or both days. provide excellent organization and support for their trail stewardship projects.
Tom put on a great work day at JMP yesterday. We got some serious work done:
1. Moving the trail away from a fragile culvert edge, which involved a fair bit of earth moving and sawing through a large, downed tree using completely unsuitable saws!
2. Creating a “blue” line through the rock garden on the right (without “dumbing down” the fast black line on the left). Lots of sledgehammer work and we (well, they, since I was just taking pics) built a new small rock retaining wall to fix an off-camber bit that less-experience riders would find daunting. Eric Strempke builds a nice wall! We saw several riders spontaneously take this line afterwards, so I think we got it right.
3. Adding a drain to fix a nasty wet spot just before the trail splits lower down
4. Brushing on Castle Park just before the entrance to Cindy
Thanks, Gandesbery and all who came out.

Mother Nature has conspired against us yet again — the rain forecast for Thursday has moved itself smack-dab in the middle of our work time. So, we’re cancelling the work day. Watch meet up for future week day or weekend work days.
Join us at Crockett Hills Regional Park on Thursday, April 4th (9am-1pm) for a morning of trail work — work scope will most likely be drains and/or features on Sugar City or Soaring Eagle trails.
The rainy season is (hopefully) nearing an end — let’s have our park ready for a great spring, summer and fall of riding!
