Last weekend we travelled to Reno to fight at the the Nevada Invitational. We are proud of Aaron and Zoe for representing us with tenacity in the ring 🥊 Here are some of the highlights from the trip!

Our Cal Boxers have been training hard for competition season 🥊. As we get closer to our Home Bout (02/25) and NCBA regionals, we would like to highlight our members of our Spring 2023 team!

Part 3 of introducing our coaches and officers!:

Hello I’m Coach Jacqueline (“Jacque” for short), and I am a proud Cal Boxer! I am a Senior Software Engineer, at a start up in San Francisco. Through my time there, I’ve been recognized numerous times and have been promoted because of my leadership skills which I attribute to the mentorship I received and all of the learnings I acquired through Cal Boxing.

I am originally from Southern California (the city of Compton, woot woot). I moved to the beautiful Bay when I was accepted into Cal’s College of Chemistry to complete the Chemical Engineering degree. However, I ultimately switched majors and graduated with a B.A. in Computer Science in 2018!

I tried out for Cal Boxing in Fall of 2015, but I actually tried to come to tryouts before and failed to make it. I had no previous boxing experience, and tryouts definitely kicked my butt 🥵 But I finally made it into Cal Boxing!!!

The team offered me Cal Boxing’s Treasurer position in 2016 and I was Cal Boxing’s President from 2017-2018. In 2018, my last year, Cal Sport Clubs (the governing body of all sport clubs) awarded me “Female Athlete of the Year” due to my accomplishments as an officer and athlete.

After being accepted into the competitive team, I filled the women’s 132 lbs. weight class. I was 2017 and 2018 NCBA Western Regional Champion, in 2017 I placed 3rd at the NCBA Nationals becoming an All-American. In 2018, I became a National Champion and was awarded the “Outstanding Boxer” recognition by USA boxing officials.

We had a small, but mighty women’s team: Julia Rivera at 112lbs, Vivian Chuang at 119lbs and myself at 132lbs. We were all Regional Champions in 2018 and together won the Women’s Team 3rd Place Trophy at Nationals that same year🏆.

I will never forget my time as a Cal Boxer and being coached by Coach Jon. He is an amazing coach and mentor and I owe him my success in the ring. You are 100% in good hands with Coach Jon and Coach Evan, it is truly an honor to work along side both of them and I still learn so much everyday from them.

Hi Everyone! I’m Lea! I’m a rising senior studying Math. This is going to be my 4th year with the team and 3rd year as an officer. I love being on Cal Boxing because it’s a place where you can work on improving your boxing skills each day with a great group of students and coaches. I also love getting to travel with the team and discovering new places while competing.
When I’m not boxing you can find me skiing, planning a trip to explore somewhere new, or doing some problem set.
I’m very excited to meet new people at tryouts and start training with the Fall 2022 team! 🥊

As we get closer to the start of school, we want to give everyone a chance to get to know our team better. Over the next few weeks we’ll be introducing the captains for the fall semester along with our coaches!

Hi everyone! My name is Ryan Everly, I’m a rising senior studying physics and this fall will be my 7th semester with the team. Cal Boxing has been an important part of my college experience from getting to train with a great team, meeting many friends (both at Cal and throughout the NCBA!) and traveling across the country to compete. One thing I’m looking forward to this year is hopefully hosting our home invitational for the first time since my freshman year. Aside from boxing, some of the things I enjoy include listening to/playing music, tennis, golf and camping.

We are beyond proud of our boxers! All three boxers: Lea, Cait and Ryan truly embody what Cal Boxing is all about. Committing to Boxing, committing to fighting is not easy. It’s extremely difficult. It takes commitment, takes time, energy, sacrifices, discipline, dedication, and heart. They all embody this and more. They demonstrate what it means to have heart of a champion.

Tryouts are MANDATORY to be considered for admission. Tryouts are 2 weeks long - every day of those two weeks is mandatory.

No experience is necessary to try out or be considered for admission to our club.

If selected, each member is required to pay for: semester dues, USA Boxing registration, and their own gear. Please visit our website for more details.

We encourage comfortable workout clothes and running shoes. No boxing gear will be used during tryouts. Please bring your own hydration and bring something to write with to sign waivers.
