Are you up to date with California's education plans? Check this out.

Proposition 2 would issue $10 billion in bonds, with $8.5 billion dedicated to elementary and secondary educational facilities and $1.5 billion for community college facilities. It would also change the formula used to determine the amount each district is required to contribute to be eligible to receive state funding from the bond revenue. The measure would have required the state government to cover between 50 and 55% of construction project costs and 60 and 65% of modernization project costs.

A "yes" vote supports issuing $10 billion in bonds to fund construction and modernization of public education facilities.

A "no" vote opposes issuing $10 billion in bonds to fund construction and modernization of public education facilities.

It Is World Su***de Prevention Day!

At BOSS, true healing begins in spaces where individuals feel safe, supported, and understood. We have committed to creating safe havens and spaces for prioritizing healing, safety, and community support.

Last month, the Teal & Purple Carpet was rolled out for survivors, family, friends, and the community for "Be Here Tomorrow," a conference led by The Healing Circle Organization to destigmatize mental health and su***de. The Healing Circle believes in the inherent strength and resilience of survivors. It is dedicated to fostering an environment where healing and growth can flourish, ensuring no survivor walks their path alone.

Today, let's celebrate the resilience and strength of those who have overcome their battles with mental health. Let's spread love, kindness, and understanding to support those struggling. You are not alone.

WHAT'S ON YOUR BALLOT? 🗳️

Proposition 6: Ending Slavery and Involuntary Servitude in California

As Social Justice Collective Youth Council members, we aim to keep you informed and civically engaged. We don’t tell you who or what to vote for, but we ensure you have the information you need to make informed decisions impacting our communities.

What’s at stake with Prop 6?

A "YES" Vote: Supports amending the California Constitution to prohibit slavery and involuntary servitude as punishment for a crime. It also allows the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to award credits to incarcerated individuals who voluntarily participate in work assignments.

A "NO" Vote: Opposes this amendment, meaning that the current constitutional provision allowing involuntary servitude as punishment for a crime would remain in place.

The 13th Amendment, ratified in 1865, abolished slavery in America "except as punishment for a crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted," and many states adopted the same language.

Today, the U.S. incarcerates 1.2 million people in its state and federal prisons, and incarcerated workers produce more than $2 billion in goods and commodities annually, according to a recent ACLU report. According to those findings, incarcerated people earn an average of 13 to 52 cents per hour.

This is more than just a vote—it's a step toward justice and dignity for everyone in our community. Let's stay informed and make decisions that align with our values.

Revolutionary art is a powerful tool in The Arc of Liberation.

BOSS' focus has been developing solutions to mass homelessness, mass incarceration, and public safety, and creating social justice programs tailored to meet our people's needs through a healing justice lens.

We are on the front lines, providing immediate survival needs for our people marginalized by addiction, trauma, criminality, incarceration, poverty, racism, sexism, homelessness, and all forms of violence.

This mural, aptly titled Arc of Liberation, depicts our offering to our community to inform, engage, and reflect.

On August 31st, the Black August Block Party will transform Frank Ogawa Plaza into a vibrant space where art meets activism. Come witness live performances from local artists who channel the spirit of resistance through their work. Explore the Artists' Corner, where creativity and political consciousness intersect. This is more than a festival—it’s a cultural movement. Join us as we celebrate the indomitable spirit of Black August and the artists who continue to inspire change.

A yes vote on PROP 36 would undo so much of our progress and send us backward. $20B Bay Area affordable housing bond pulled from ballot, could return for future vote 08/18/2024

We at Building Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency (BOSS) express our profound disappointment following the decision to remove the $20 billion BAHFA bond measure from the upcoming ballot. This bond represented hope for countless individuals and families across the Bay Area, promising a substantial increase in the affordable housing that is critically needed to combat homelessness and displacement in our communities.

Affordable housing is not merely a convenience but a necessity that lies at the heart of social stability and equity. Research unequivocally demonstrates that access to affordable housing is the most effective deterrent against the cycles of homelessness. The postponement of this bond measure represents a significant missed opportunity to advance this vital cause.

However, our resolve does not waver. We remain hopeful and determined, trusting that future iterations of this measure will receive the support they deserve from the Bay Area community. Our commitment to compassion and care for those in need is unwavering, and we are ready to support the next steps towards making affordable housing a reality for all.

We extend our gratitude to the Bay Area Housing Finance Authority, the Coalition on Homelessness, and all our partners who continue to work tirelessly to advocate for and develop solutions in affordable housing.

$20B Bay Area affordable housing bond pulled from ballot, could return for future vote The bond would have raised funds through a surcharge on property tax bills and distributed those significant dollars to Bay Area counties based on their contributions.
