Berkeley Mosque and all of its Muslim Community are extremely concerned and feel the injustice of the recent killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor. Their names are added to a list of far too many other African Americans and people of color whose lives have been taken unjustly. These killings occurred across the country over the course of just a few weeks. It reveals the systemic racism that African Americans face in their daily lives.
What we are witnessing is merely a symptom of a much deeper problem. Make no mistake, it is a direct consequence of oppression, hatred, bigotry, and racism that is still running in the veins of our society.
Prophet Mohamed said, "Oppression will be a darkness on the Day of Resurrection.”
“Be afraid, from the curse of the oppressed, as there is no screen between his invocation and Allah."
We are calling on our community to Not be silent; Peacefully demonstrate solidarity with our African American community through activism, donation, and echoing their voices.
Black Lives Matter
“…Whoever kills a soul, unless it be for murder or for wreaking corruption in the land, it shall be as if he had killed all mankind; and he who saves a life, it shall be as if he had given life to all mankind.” The Holy Quran.

Eid ul-Fitr is on Sunday, May 24, 2020, insha’Allah.
Unfortunately Berkeley Masjid will stay close as per California regulations. We are sharing some ideas and suggestions from the Muslim Fiqh Council below:
EID PROGRAM ONLINE FROM 8AM-12PM*
https://www.norcalcouncil.org/events/unified-eid-program/
"It may not be possible to organize large Eid al Fitr prayers this year due to COVID 19. Therefore, families shall do Eid prayers at home. The Eid Khutbah is not required. People can listen to virtual Eid reflections from their local masjids. The Eid prayer can be offered any time after sunrise and before noon on Sunday, May 24, 2020. Please fulfil the Sunan of Eid such as taking bath, putting on the best clothes and perfume, reciting recommended Takbeerat and eating some dates or sweet before Eid prayer. Please share gifts with one another especially with children. Visit friends and families not physically but from a distance. Please follow the state instructions such as face masks, social distancing and hand sanitizers. The Fiqh Council does not recommend holding of large Eid prayers at masjids or at open places such as parks, stadiums or soccer fields. There is a great danger of viral transmission via large social gatherings and the community must avert such dangers. "
EID MUBARAK

Mosque
Muslims have had a presence in Berkeley for over a half century, and yet no masjid exists within the city. This is attributable, in part, to the fact that the majority of Muslims in Berkeley are students who are not only transient residents of the city, but also have very limited time and financial resources.
