"What Kind of Bird Can't Fly: A Memoir of Resilience and Resurrection", featuring a Foreword by Michelle Alexander, traces how Nunn's time spent in prison became a catalyst for the nationwide movement he nurtured to restore dignity and justice to the currently and formerly incarcerated. Nunn is the codirector of Legal Services for Prisoners with Children (LSPC), and co-founder of All of Us or None (AOUON).
"So much of what Iâve come to know and understand over the years about the second-class status imposed upon people labeled 'criminals' or 'felons' Iâve learned from Dorsey and the people who comprise All of Us or None, an organization he cofounded...thereâs never been a time in our friendship in which he hasnât been schooling meânot so much in theory, but in practice."
From the foreword by Michelle Alexander

This Monday, 6/15 at 7pm! Don't miss Bay Area poet Sarah Ghazal Ali's incredible debut collection, "Theophanies" (Alice James Books, 2024), which Ocean Vuong calls "one of the most sure-footed debuts I've had the pleasure to encounter in many years."
Sarah will be joined by fellow beloved northern California poets aracelis girmay and Danusha Lameris for reading, talking all things poetics, and celebration. See you there!
_____
âSarah Ghazal Aliâs debut collection, Theophanies, pulses with lifeâangels, cranes, and a womanâs own fierce potential, the miraculous and terrifying possibilities she holds within her heart, womb, and mind. Through sinuous lyric and religious persona, Ali delves unblinkingly into the depths of faith, family, and womanhood. These poems are bold, insistent reckonings that reach across time and geography, a chorus of female voices demanding to be heard.â

Gurba is a writer, artist, and activist, and author of the iconic true crime memoir, Mean, and the recent essay collection, Creep, a finalist for a National Book Critics Circle award in criticism.
