Introducing Lola. She is a 5 year old Caique Parrot. She was seen by our exotic specialist, Dr. Gleeson. Lola has been plucking her feathers. Plucking can be behavioral: caused by boredom, compulsive behaviors, improper habitat/enclosure, predator stress (other pets or humans), sexual frustration, and lack of training from parents. Inflammatory skin conditions: bacterial, fungal or yeast infections. After and exam and a discussion with her owner she was able to be monitored at home for causes. For more info on Caiques check out https://www.webmd.com/pets/what-to-know-about-caiques

Yay for Charlie! Get well soon!

Meet sweet Charlie, a 10-year-old cat!🐈💕 Unfortunately, Charlie faced signs of a second urinary obstruction. Referral Center confirmed the diagnosis, and despite initial non-surgical treatment, PU surgery became crucial to save Charlie's life. In a financial bind, Charlie's mom turned to Sage Compassion for Animals, and with our support, we were able to provide the necessary assistance for Charlie's surgery. A heartfelt thank you to Pets Referral Center for their crucial role in Charlie's care. Now, Charlie is back home, in recovery, and though not too thrilled about the cone, he's happily soaking in the extra cuddles! 🐾💙

7 Ways to Make the Holidays Safer for Pets

Nothing can spoil holiday cheer like an emergency visit to a veterinary clinic. These seven tips can help prevent a holiday disaster with your pets.

-Keep people food out of the reach of your pet, and ask your guests to do the same.

-Make sure your pet doesn't have any access to treats, especially those containing chocolate, xylitol, grapes/raisins, onions or other toxic foods.

-Don't leave your pet alone in the room with lit candles, a decorated tree or potpourri.

-Keep holiday plants (especially holly, mistletoe and lillies) out of reach of pets.

-Consider leaving the tinsel off your tree if you have a cat.

-Secure your Christmas tree to keep it from falling over if your dog bumps it or your cat climbs it. Hanging lemon-scented car air fresheners in the tree may deter your cat from climbing it.

-Provide a safe place for your pet to escape the excitement (such as a kennel, crate, perching place, scratching post shelf or hiding place) if you’re entertaining guests. If your pet is excitable or scared, consider putting your pet in another room with some toys and a comfortable bed.

Say WELCOME to sweet little Autumn. She's a new member of the PETS family as she was recently adopted by our Hospital Manager, Jessica. Our best guess is that she is about 3 years old and a Terrier/Corgi mix. She came from Milo Foundation and is one very lucky girl!!

Meet Ripley, a super sweet 5 month old Poodle mix! As puppies will do, he made a poor choice and ate a sock! Thanks to the prompt response by his guardian he arrived at ER pretty quickly, at least before the sock left his stomach. We induced vomiting and up it came! Luckily he was able to avoid a serious and costly surgery. Be more careful next time pal...
