Yesterday dignitaries of Yahualica, Jalisco Mexico arrived to take donation of Berkeleys first generation Peirce Engine. This is a retired Engine 1. Also in the picture are Fire Chief Abe Roman, Logistics Captain Conti, and members of the Berkeley Bomberos.

International Womens Day has been historically celebrated on March 8. It aims to celebrate the recognition and achievements of women. The Berkeley Fire Department would like to recognize those women who embodies the work ethic and principles our department strives to achieve. To the past present and future women that serve our city.

In honor of International Womens Day, Berkeley firefighters would like to acknowledge those who are the backbone of our administration, department and prevention (to name a few). Not all are pictured, but all are appreciated.

It happens.

The Panel. This is the pump panel on our 2021 Peirce Engines. In 2017 the department made a decision to move away from the Push/Pull valve to electronic valves. Although many engineers miss the feel of a manual valve the electronic valves have their advantages. One advantage is the layout of the panel. A electronic valve can be placed just about anywhere vs a mechanical valve that needed to be in line with plumbing and the lever. We get better GPMs at lower pressures with the improved plumbing efficiency.

Second week of recruit class #111. Last week they covered Drive operator 1A. This week they're putting in the time getting used to handling hoselines.

On Wednesday, February 15 2022, our brothers and sisters at Oakland Fire Department had several members hospitalized due to injuries sustained while battling a fire on the 6th floor of a high rise apartment building. One of these three firefighters is still there and needs our support more than ever.

On Wednesday 2/23/22 we will be showing solidarity for Jenn Mathis and the rest of OFD, by wearing pink socks, just like Jenn was the day of the incident. Get well soon Jenn!

Several months ago, Berkeley Fire Dept. donated two 1999 Peirce Quantum Pumpers to Tepic, Mexico. Here is one of them being placed back into service by Tepic Bomberos!!

Stockton Firefighters-

Stockton Firefighters are heartbroken. Our friend and brother Captain Max Fortuna was tragically taken from us. A 21 year veteran of the Stockton Fire Department, Captain Fortuna was on Engine 2 at an outdoor fire when he was struck by gunfire at the scene. It is a devastating loss for his wife, two children, family, and our fire department. We are working on details for his services, and will update as more information becomes available.
