How one new hobby quickly became three with only 12$. A tale of new discoveries ♥️✨

My Momma always wanted me to try crochet. I ✨never ✨had the patience for it. I couldn’t sit still long enough to learn & she made it look way too easy! I so wish I had given her the time to teach me. Anyone who knew her, knew that from Black Friday on, my momma would be making anything from blankets, to hats, to scarves. Family, friends, coworkers, and every one in between… she’d be making gifts. If she found out someone was pregnant… you best believe she’d be starting on a blanket as soon as she picked out the perfect yarn. She always had her crochet with her!! My momma’s heart was so so huge & she put ✨so ✨much love into everything she made. I have people ✨still✨ tell me how much they love their gifts my momma made them & it warms my heart every time.

I’ve had a double inner ear infection for the better part of 2 months. Multiple rounds of antibiotics and steroids with no relief & now a referral to an ENT. Possibly looking at tubes. While I’ve been sick, it’s been painful and dizzying to sit up or stand for long periods of time. I push through at work because I ✨have✨ to. At home, I’ve been basically couch bound with the constant migraines. I am MISSING my earrings so much!!! Most of all… I miss CREATING. I can only read, play video games, or Facebook and Netflix so much before I lose my mind! I ✨had✨ to find something. That’s when I thought about my momma. She’s always my inspiration. Why not try crochet? I have to be still now… maybe I can do it.

So I went by the store and picked up some yarn that was on sale & had a sweet worker help me figure out what type of hook to use. I spent 6$ & thought… DANG yarn is CHEAP. 😂 The first day I had trouble with hand cramps, controlling my tension & getting the hook caught in the strands because I was pulling too tight. It took me 4-5 hours to do a baby sized blanket strand. I thought “good lord… how did my momma do this?!” I immediately started searching for solutions. Found I probably could use a tension ring and ergonomic handle. Looked up to buy it & just ✨really ✨ didn’t want to spend my money. Went to the store anyway & that’s when it hit me!! Do it ✨yourself✨

Y’all !!! I’m so excited!! I spent 6$ for some wire. I probably should have looked up ✨if✨ it was possible to do it before I did it lmao… but I made an ergonomic handle with polymer clay! I made it perfectly shaped to ✨my✨ hand & it has made a huge difference!!! Once baked, it hardens, but I use a velvety type clay, so it’s even ✨texturally ✨pleasing!! (Ps. If any of my crochet friends have a need for this, I have TONS of ✨scrap✨ clay that I’d love to get rid of. I’d only ask to pay shipping if you are not local & a the hook if you do not want to send me yours! Just send me a message!) Next was the tension ring! I looked up what one looked like & said, “I can do that” & by golly I did 🥹 It only took 5 minutes at most!! (Also, I have plenty of wire left. If you have a need, just simply message me! Same with shipping if not local!) These two changes were HUGE!! I was able to crochet the same amount I did the night before in only 30 minutes! Not only that… it didn’t hurt!!! Well guys, I have fallen in love. It’s very calming & gives me something to do with my hands that ✨isn’t✨ playing on the phone. The best part? My dad found a bunch of my momma’s yarn & ✨hopefully✨ we can find one of her hooks because that would mean so dearly to me! Plus, I can practically take it anywhere!! I will get back to my hobbit holes ✨just✨ as soon as my ears cooperate, but for now.. I’ll enjoy this new discovery. Y’all have the best day now, ya hear! ♥️

When I began Gnomies Create, I created what inspired me, what made me smile, or just because it was pretty. I enjoyed creating, trying new techniques, and finding my groove.

Somewhere along the way, I lost sight of this.

I began creating what would sell. Constantly restocking the fave’s. Buying and creating what was marketable… rather than the part of me I want to share. Nearly every minute I wasn’t at work, I was working on marketing. Taking pictures, making posts, making videos, etc… it took my body breaking down on me for me to realize… this isn’t ✨me✨. I began to hate it. Even the parts I love. I began to hate.

Something has to change.

With a ✨light ✨ heart, I have decided I am closing my Etsy on June 16,2024. It is taking too much time from my family & frankly, it was making me lose sight of why I started this. I became greedy for the money & that is not what this business is about for me. 75% off the entire store until the doors close on Sunday! ♥️

Happy Pride Month!! 🌈

Chronic illness be illin’, so I have not been able to do the things I love to do. My poor kiddos have had a lot of lazy days in the living room, but thankfully things seem to be getting better. One of my doctors started me on a new nerve pain medication and it’s making such a huge difference already! I have a lot of fun things planned & will be working on them as my body allows!

Here is a little sneak peaked what I’ve been working on this week! I’ve had so much fun making these! Each hobbit door takes 4+ hours to create with all of the little details, but they are so worth it in the end!! I also have some bacon, butterflies, fairies, and jellyfish in the works! There’s still a bit of work to do on these! I want to paint them and then glaze them! Then of course sanding, drilling, & assembly. I will hopefully have a release some time next week!

Where are my Ehlers Danlos babes at? 🦓♥️

I’ve made a unique line of earrings to represent the Zebra and Ehlers Danlos (hEDs). I was recently diagnosed with hEDs, along with dysautonomia, chronic pain syndrome & fibromyalgia. As no two zebras share the same stripes, (& no two hEDs are the same) no two earrings are the same. Zebras represent Ehlers Danlos (and other rare diseases) due to how rare it is. The medical saying is, “ you hear hoofbeats, you think horses, not zebra”. Well, we are the zebras in this scenario. It’s not easy to live with this disease. Each of us are just trying our best. This line is meant to show how beautifully unique we all are.

15% of proceeds go to each different foundation at the end of the year. Last year (newbie to selling) I was able to donate 10$ to Friends, a local foundation for Down syndrome awareness & 95$ to the breast cancer research foundation. I’d love to be able to give back so much more this year!

Right now, I’m sitting at 6$ breast cancer, 6$ autism (autism acceptance going to the autism science foundation), & 23$ to down syndrome (going to national Down syndrome society) with matching 23$ foundation to friends! It’s only March, so I’m thrilled with these numbers!

I’m working on an ehlers danlos/rare disease line at the moment.

Why these? I’m raising awareness and acceptance for things that are dear to my heart. Things that I go through, or someone close to my heart deals with. I want the earrings to spark conversation. Talk about what it means to you, spread the word, or maybe even get donations if they are so inclined. You never know what someone else’s story is or what they deal with everyday. These earrings are meant to be a way to open that door, or simply just show your support for someone else’s story.
