We were called out to Inspect and repair a leak. We came out to find 2 layers of shingles, decking -not up to code, busted gutters, poor chimney flashing, and lots of hail damage!
On the day of the build, we removed and replaced the wood slats with brand new decking, replaced all chimney and other flashings plus added new facia and gutters as well as finishing it off with some beautiful IKO Cambridge shingles.

Roof inspections after storms are crucial for several reasons:

Assessing damage: Storms, especially severe ones like hurricanes, tornadoes, or hailstorms, can cause significant damage to roofs. Inspecting the roof after a storm helps identify any damage, such as missing or broken shingles, cracks, leaks, or structural issues. Promptly addressing these problems can prevent further damage and costly repairs in the future.
Insurance claims: If your property is insured against storm damage, conducting a roof inspection is essential for filing an accurate insurance claim. Insurance companies typically require documented evidence of the damage, including inspection reports and photographs. Having a professional inspection report can help support your claim and ensure you receive proper compensation for the repairs or replacement needed.
Preventing further damage: Even minor roof damage, if left unaddressed, can lead to more significant problems over time. Leaks, for instance, can result in water infiltration, which can damage the interior of the building, including walls, ceilings, insulation, and electrical systems. By conducting inspections and addressing any issues promptly, you can prevent secondary damage and the associated costs.
Extending roof lifespan: Regular inspections, including those after storms, help identify and address issues that may shorten the lifespan of your roof. By promptly repairing or replacing damaged components, you can extend the overall longevity of your roof. This proactive approach saves money in the long run by reducing the need for frequent and major repairs or premature roof replacement.
In summary, roof inspections after storms are vital for identifying and addressing damage, supporting insurance claims, ensuring safety, preventing further damage, and prolonging the lifespan of your roof. It is recommended to hire a professional roofing contractor or inspector experienced in storm damage assessments to conduct a thorough inspection and provide accurate recommendations for repairs or replacement if necessary

Having a professional inspection report can help support your claim and ensure you receive proper compensation for the repairs or replacement needed.
Safety concerns: Storm damage to roofs can compromise their structural integrity. Weakened or damaged roofs pose a safety risk to the occupants of the building. Inspections help identify potential hazards, such as loose or hanging materials, sagging sections, or weakened support structures. Timely repairs or temporary measures can be implemented to mitigate these risks and ensure the safety of those in the building.
Preventing further damage: Even minor roof damage, if left unaddressed, can lead to more significant problems over time. Another denial and another claim that we got got approved for replacement. This particular shingle that was on the roof hides damage more than any other shingle I have experienced, inspections must be thorough or you will miss a lot of damage. Virtually impossible to see damage from the ground!!! Very common builders grade shingles in Matthews NC and throughout the Charlotte area.
Homeowner went with Owens Corning Oakridge Driftwood colored shingles, beautiful!

Beautiful transformation in Waxhaw, NC of a wind and hail claim denied by the insurance company. The homeowners had fought with the help of another roofing company against the insurance company but had zero results.
We knocked on the door, gave the free inspections opened up the claim again. The insurance still claimed there was not enough damage. We showed proof of over 64 wind damaged shingles and hail on every facet. They still did pay to replace the roof. We even had try to make repairs which showed the shingles were to damaged, brittle to repair effectively. Insurance still dug their heels in and said they were not going to replace roof, they just wanted to repair over 120 shingles!
We were not done, when I say Ascend Roofs will fight for our customers we will exhaust all avenues.
We called in our engineering team, two days after the insurance company received their report the roof was bought in full!!!
This is becoming a pattern we see more and more in our industry.
If you have been denied we will honestly evaluate your claim and let you know if you should continue to fight for the roof replacement or wait for the next steps.

An interesting change in 2023, now non-profits and churches who put solar on their buildings can benefit:

"Prior to the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, places of worship and other tax exempt entities were unable to directly take advantage of federal tax credits to support installation of solar panels.
Now, 30% (* or more) of the cost of a solar project and installation can be covered by direct pay tax credits from the federal government through 2032."

Preventing outages, lowering energy bill and receiving a direct payment for 30% of the project? Sounds like a great offer for !

Big Question
Why should you supplement all insurance claims?

Insurance companies objective is to bring the home back to pre-storm condition, but sometimes the initial estimate does not include all the costs associated with installing the job correctly. So, for many items – permits, extra shingles, ice and water shield, etc. – if you don’t know how to request it, you’re not going to get paid for it.
On average for each insurance claim we supplement for a little over $1000.
Homeowners, that is a lot of needed items for your families home.
Roofing contractors, that is a lot of money left out there, that is left on the table. If we are not fighting to indemnify our customers wholly, who will?
Sales reps, think of the year end difference in commissions if you sell 50, 100, 150 jobs in a year.

Although this is a teadious process, this is a huge part of our customer service program at Ascend Roofs

We try to treat every home like it is my mothers’ and I know I would not put anything sub standard on her house! We care!

Charlotte NC

Called in for multiple leaks?
No waterproofing on a low pitch roof, just regular felt and shingles will not cut it.
Solution:
As customer wants the look of shingles we opted out of rolled roofing, we use weather guard to waterproof roof, and shingled over with OC Onyx Black Oakridge shingles, new flashing and soon to come a run of gutters to keep the water from pouring off the main roof and pounding the low pitch roof of their beautiful sunroom.
