Some Olympic history!!

One of the most remarkable and lesser-known incidents in Olympic history unfolded during the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

While Jesse Owens' legendary performances often dominate the narrative, the story of two Japanese pole vaulters, Shuhei Nishida and Sueo Oe, stands out as a testament to sportsmanship and friendship.

Both Nishida and Oe cleared the same height, resulting in a tie for second place. However, the Olympic officials required a jump-off to determine who would receive the silver medal and who would take the bronze. Nishida and Oe, who were not only teammates but also good friends, chose to refuse the jump-off. Instead, they accepted the officials' decision, which awarded the silver medal to Nishida and the bronze to Oe based on their earlier attempts.

Upon returning to Japan, Nishida and Oe decided to do something extraordinary. They had their medals cut in half and then fused together, creating two unique "friendship medals," each one half silver and half bronze. This remarkable act of unity and mutual respect has become a powerful symbol of their enduring friendship and the true spirit of the Olympics.

Love Shoeless Joe Jackson!!

Shoeless Joe Jackson played his final Major League season in 1920. Jackson hit .382 with 218 hits including 42 doubles, 20 triples and 12 home runs. He had a career high 121 runs batted in and struck out just 14 times. Then he was permanently banned from Major League baseball.

In 1923 Jackson hired a Milwaukee-based attorney, Ray Cannon, and sued the White Sox for back pay he felt was owed to him after his acquittal in the Black Sox trial. Joe believed that Harry Grabiner had taken advantage of his illiteracy in obtaining his signature on a contract that included the hated “reserve clause,” which effectively allowed teams to control their players in perpetuity. A jury sided with Jackson and awarded him more than $16,000 in back pay, but Jackson’s deposition about his involvement in the World Series scandal clashed so much with his 1920 grand jury testimony that the judge threw out the verdict and charged Jackson with perjury. Jackson settled with Comiskey for an undisclosed amount and went back home to Georgia.

On July 6th at 2 PM my BPTV crew helped me to do my "On Location" to promote this great Fundraiser in Bethel Park!! We did Cruise 1 last year when Gary was dying of cancer. He wanted no money for himself or family. His goal was to have ALL donations sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital! What a great man. He died 6 weeks later. The organizers told me they raised $13,000.00. First all the car owners donated to park and show their cars! Last year Gary started up hi 1,000 horsepower engine of his beautiful yellow car!! up for us last year!!

We had a great turnout of cars. resident of Bethel Park and the surrounding communities.

Truly blessed and honored to help again!!
