Thank you, Weinfeld Education Group, LLC Educational Consultant and SEE US Coordinator Marcy Rachamim Jackson, for sharing your expertise with us.

“At SEE US, we are aware of the information-sharing stigma and fear rightly attributed to overreporting to for example.

This over-reporting and misreporting to CPS makes our work in advocacy even harder. Parents are fearful that by sharing their child’s education history, their family life will be negatively exposed.

We emphasize to parents that the focus of our discovery is on education experiences, not on household life.”

The intersectionality of disability and race has a profound impact on the quality of service, access, and provision.

Because of continued inequity in public education servicing for Black students with special needs and its relationship to the school-to-prison pipeline, SEE US started in 2020, 30 years after the ADA: Americans with Disabilities Act.

What have we done?

💙 SEE US has served nearly 70 students with FREE, expert special education advocacy, in DC, MD, and VA.

This means that instead of parents feeling ignored by school teams, 70 SEE US parents have been empowered by parent voice.

This means that instead of students being misidentified as disabled, 70 SEE US students had their records reviewed for proper identification.

This means that instead of frustrations in the classroom, 70 SEE US students received appropriate accommodations for their disabilities, gifts, and delays.

SEE US had served 70 more students and parents with your help.

“SEE US celebrates Disability Pride Month with the rest of America.

The enactment of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in July of 1990 required public entities like schools to service students with disabilities.

SEE US was founded in 2020 - 30 years after Civil Rights movement produced the ADA - because the legal rights for Black students with disabilities remain unrealized.”

Race was once factored into college admissions. Now, it’s factored out. 07/10/2024

Thoughts by SEE US Coordinator and Educational Consultant with Weinfeld Education Group, LLC Marcy Rachamin Jackson:

“Even if Race-Neutral were to work in high education; don’t even think about it for secondary or primary, where race matters in resource allocation and service quality.

We are not there yet.”

Race was once factored into college admissions. Now, it’s factored out. One year after the Supreme Court’s landmark affirmative action decision, the ruling’s race-neutral model is being followed at colleges across the country.

About “Pour the Water: Transformative Solutions for Equity & Justice in Special Education:”

Education is as essential to well-being as water, yet many Black students with special needs lack equitable access to this vital resource.

In “Pour the Water,” special education advocate, Marcy Rachamim Jackson of Weinfeld Education Group, LLC , blends advocacy and academia, with a compassionate lens of social justice and spirituality.

Jackson questions the practices of identification and service for students with gifts, delays, disabilities, and differences.

Relying on expert interviews, medical research, social context, and program examples, she guides readers over obstacles and on to opportunities for the most underserved.

At the critical intersection of race and disability, this book offers frameworks for antiracist practices and policy to help teachers, providers, researchers, professors, and graduate students create equitable learning environments where all students can thrive.
