What are the Periodontal Structures of the Mouth?
A dental anatomy lesson: The periodontium is made up of five structures: gingiva, alveolar bone, gingival connective tissue, periodontal ligament, and cementum. The gingiva is the outer pink layer. The alveolar bone holds the teeth in place and forms the tooth sockets. The connective tissue helps hold and attach the gum tissue to the teeth. The periodontal ligament connects the cementum to the alveolar bone. The cementum covers the tooth roots.
