Dr. Reinisch recently served on a committee for a plastic surgery-related PhD dissertation defense in Holland - remotely, of course. What a unique and beautiful experience. Congratulations to for completing her PhD and for a very impressive presentation and defense regarding microtia reconstruction! We are so proud of you, Claire!

A happy update from Clive and his family!! “We are so proud of him. He is going well at High school in Sydney, his ear is 2.5 years old, and he loves cooking with his brother, sister and Pug. All good here in Australia, but missing LA. We love It there so much. Hope to return to LA soon.” We are so proud of Clive, too!! We reconstructed his left microtia ear 2.5 years ago. Congratulations on starting high school and what a handsome yearbook photo! Can’t wait to see him again and hopefully get to try some of that cooking 🥰👂🐶 .

Thank you so much to everyone who has been sending us well wishes via Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, email, and text from all over the world 🥰 We are as much as possible, while continuing to care for patients, as needed.
We are also currently rescheduling our Moscow and Barcelona conferences to November, and will publish the finalized dates as soon as we have the information available. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause - but we need to prevent any further spread of this developing pandemic and minimize any risk to our patients and families.
Dr. Reinisch and Caitlin are always available if you have any concerns or questions. Much of our office is contributing to the COVID-19 pandemic response efforts, but we are always available to you. We greatly encourage everyone to follow your local guidelines to protect yourselves, your families, and others.😷🚿🛌 Rest assured, we are all being as careful as possible to protect any current patients and staff, should you need to see us. Be safe and thank you for the love! We hope to see you soon!💟
A happy update from Elise and her family! 🥳👂
Per Dr. Joseph Roberson - Atresia Microtia Surgery:
"Meet Elise! She had right CAM (combined) surgery with Dr. Roberson and Dr. Reinisch in December 2018. She just sent us pictures of her beautiful ear and canal, now 14 months postop, and we couldn’t be happier with how things look. The last picture shows her hearing test results since surgery (she had a score of 9 on her CT scan, for reference)! The red line represents her preoperative hearing levels; the blue line (20/2/19) is from one year ago, about 2 months postop; and the black line is from May 2019 (6 months postop). As you can see, her hearing after surgery has improved from about 60 dB to approximately 20 dB‼️🤩‼️We could not be happier! With this hearing, Elise requires zero additional amplification or hearing devices, and is functioning excellently in school and life. This is what it’s all about. We are so thrilled for her! Also pictured is her new puppy 'Cisco' – named after the city of San Francisco to commemorate her time in California around surgery. 🥰🐶 #атрезия #микротия #хирургия "
Throwback to a CAM (Combined Atresia Microtia) surgery with Dr. Joseph Roberson - Atresia Microtia Surgery in February! We hope everyone is safely !
Today’s ear only minutes after completion! 🥰😍 Dr. Roberson and Dr. Reinisch worked their magic again! #атрезия #микротия #хирургия
A happy (and adorable😍) update from mom and Hadyn:
“Fifteen years ago today, Dr. Reinisch gave our girl a beautiful nose, removing her nasal tip hemangioma. I am still so very thankful and grateful for his work and expertise. It meant the world to us. She still has an incredibly beautiful nose. Thank you again.”
Many parents of children with hemangiomas, especially when located on the face, worry about their children growing up - thank you so much to Hadyn and her family for being willing to share their story. We treat many children with hemangiomas who go on to live very happy lives! A beautiful girl and a beautiful nose!👃🤩 Thank you, Hadyn!

We are excited to announce the release of the Osia 2! This new bone conducting hearing device is made by Cochlear, the company which makes the BAHA. We expect this new device to be a great tool for children and adults with microtia/atresia, especially those with bilateral MA who are not candidates for canalplasty (we still prefer canalplasty, if possible). This new device works differently than the BAHA, which gives improved sound quality (especially in the higher frequencies). The external processor does not vibrate and there is expected to be less scalp irritation. The external processor is wider, but much flatter and lighter than the BAHA 5 (see the side by side comparison photo). Because the Osia 2 does not stick out from the head as much as the BAHA, it stays in place more easily, and fits better with hats and helmets. It still uses a magnet to attach (the silicone portion and associated silver block are placed under the scalp), so nothing pokes out through the skin. And perhaps best of all, there is a waterproof case, so kids can swim or shower with it on. We can place the Osia 2 at the same time as the ear reconstruction, to avoid further scars on the scalp and the need for additional surgery. They will be available in the coming weeks, so stay tuned! For more information please see the Cochlear site - https://www.cochlear.com/us/en/home/products-and-accessories/cochlear-osia-system

Upcoming conferences! Register at: https://www.atresiarepair.com/conferences-registration.html
One of our favorite things is when our patients don’t turn to their non-microtia side anymore for pictures 😍 This is our beautiful patient, Ekaterina, and her new right ear at a masquerade ball! 👂 When she came to us, a major goal was getting to wear earrings at her prom. Very occasionally, the earlobe is a bit too small to pierce after the reconstruction, but it is usually not a problem - and we can pierce the new ear before you return home. Stunning, Ekaterina! 1 year post-op right ear reconstruction with an implant.

Just received this happy update from Clive’s family! “Hi Dr Reinisch. Clive has just turned 13 and his ear is 2 years old. He was excited to get his first custom surfboard for his birthday 🙂. Hope you are all well in LA.“ Happy birthday, Clive - and what an awesome board (and 👂)! Thank you so much for the update!
We encourage our kids to pursue the sports they love, even with a reconstructed ear👏🏼 If a sport requires a helmet, please feel free to send us a photo so we can check that it doesn’t place too much pressure on the new ear. We want our kids to live life to the fullest and return to the sports they love😊⛷🏄♂️🤾🏻♀️🏊♀️⚽️🏐🏈

Adorable update/great BAHA advice time! “Preston’s first class picture with his new ear!!!! Blown away by your teams work everyday, without fail. Grateful for all you have done for Preston and our family! 😌” Regarding the BAHA: “The connection to his shirt tickles his neck so I made a hat so when he wears the BAHA I connect it to the back of the hat and then it doesn’t tickle him. Otherwise now that it is winter and he is wearing a hoodie or sweatshirt usually it doesn’t bother him.” Parents know best, so we welcome any and all advice for other families! If you have any tips or tricks for BAHAs and ears, please share them in the comments!

Quentin recently came from France for his ear reconstruction! Our kids aren’t always little😂👂 Quentin had previously had an ear reconstruction in another country, but with an unsatisfactory result - we often revise previous ear reconstructions or can usually present options for new reconstructions from scratch. Adorable patient alert - Bulat had his ear reveal today! He also had some cheek asymmetry, which is very common in children with microtia - the cheek on the same side of the microtia is smaller than the other. So, we reconstructed Bulat’s right ear and moved some fat from his belly to his right cheek to even them out. He did an amazing job and was so calm as we removed the mold and showed his parents how to wash the new ear (hint - just like you wash the other ear!). Congratulations, Bulat and family 😊👂
