Shahla Dorriz was inspired by the Women, Life, Freedom movement. This gown, designed for Oscar-nominated Shohreh Aghdashloo, is dedicated to Mahsa-Jina-Amini, whose tragic death for wearing her hijab “inappropriately” at the hands of authorities ignited an ongoing civil disobedience that has left hundreds of women killed. The gown symbolizes the courage of those fighting for women’s rights.

layli samimi wearing a 24 karat gilded gold thread lace, holding Zia in a gold and silk thread Turkmenistan patterned textile. Draped behind the two are remnants of the family archived textiles either made by Shahla’s mother or grandmother or collected by them (many dating over 150 years old), which were smuggled from Iran during the Iranian Revolution.

I am very thankful to Helping Hands of Southern California (a non-profit organization) for honoring me at their 1st Annual Fundraiser Fashion Gala, recognizing me as the first Persian designer to improve and continuously promote Persian art and culture in the world through fashion and textiles for over 24 years.
