When asked me to do a few pieces for her baby shower I was over the moon and then when she said she wanted them to be Miyazaki inspired??? I said, “say less ✋” and found all the cutest, weirdest, sweetest little botanicals to welcome her Baby Girl.
Yellow Peony, Nigella, Scabiosa Pods, Delphinium, Strawflower, Craspedia… full of imagination and whimsy and loveliness.

I’m officially up for air this week ♥️

Monday, Monday…

I’ve been a Florist Mom since day 1. I started this business in 2009 after my son was born because I couldn’t afford to go back to my job in local government and pay for daycare. I’ve been playing with flowers since I was a teenager and I knew I could make it into a business. I started The Plum Dahlia with during The Crash with an 11 month old and no drivers license (yes. For real, I didn’t drive until I was 30). My children have been art of me every single step of the way, their well being guides my steps, my throttling and my growth. They’re why I’m still home-based, why I don’t do 4am market runs anymore. They’re why I strive for balance.

I can pat myself on the back and say I’ve Boss Mom’ed this whole thing but they’ve sacrificed a lot to make this work. My codependency has me double and triple booked to try to be present for everything but I know I fall short. I’ve missed school events, parties, play dates. I’ve worked through the night, missing them for days because I’m “pushing through” and they pop into the studio to say good night. I am grateful they get it. I work hard to cultivate a relationship with them that is centered on unconditional love and respect and I am blessed to receive it from them in return.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Flower Moms out there. I see you, I know your hands are filthy and you’re dehydrated and I hope you get to lay down tomorrow.
