With all this rain π§, let's talk about trench foot. Dating back to 1812, the diagnosis of trench foot became more understood during World War I. Today this diagnosis has evolved into the broader term, immersion foot syndromes. They are caused by prolonged exposure of the feet to warm or nonfreezing temperatures of water π§. The feet entrapped in wet socks 𧦠and shoes ππ₯Ύcan lead to symptoms such as numbness, itching, skin color changes, swelling, and pain. If you find yourself outside biking π΅ββοΈ, hiking or even working in this rain for hours, it is important to change your socks and shoes when they become saturated whether from water or sweat and replace footwear if there are holes or leaks! Seek medical treatment immediately if experiencing these symptoms. βοΈ
ππβ±βοΈπ’ Itβs beach and pool season! With this unfortunately comes the potential for βforeign bodies.β Foreign bodies encompass anything you step on that can pe*****te the skin and even go deep into bone. Common foreign bodies can range from glass, splinters, or nails. While some of these injuries can be uneventful, other cases can lead to painful retained foreign bodies in the foot, inclusion cysts, warts, possible infections in the soft tissue and bone, or even tetanus. Footwear can provide protection but if you find yourself with this injury, we are here to help! Same day emergency appointments are available. 978-922-0288
