An article in Architectural Digest talks about...
THE GREAT PILLOW DEBATE!
ā€œThere is such a thing as too many pillows,ā€ Freeman affirms. ā€œLess is more and I prefer four [sleeping] pillows and two decorative pillowsā€”thatā€™s all you need.ā€
His contemporaries similarly preach restraint. ā€œThese days we do two big square pillows against the headboard, bigger than European-size, with two rectangular pillows in frontā€”sometimes upright, sometimes laying down.
ā€œThe perfect formula for us is four sleeping pillows, two Euros and a lumbar.ā€ ā€œNot so many that you will lose your mind moving them every day or end your marriage.ā€

In my opinion, there are still factors to consider when styling your bed with sleeping and decorative pillows. First, the size of the room matters. The size bed weather itā€™s a twin, Queen or King will make a difference between looking overdone or comfy and cozy. The style of the bed does needs to be considered as well, is it a large upholstered headboard, a low vintage spindle, or a midcentury style. This will all depend on how many pillows will look aesthetically pleasing. Yes, there is a such a thing of to two many pillows! Bedroom pictures all have 4 sleeping pillows with 1- 2-3 decorative. The King bed has 4 sleeping pillows and 4 decorative ā€¦. At least 1 too many pillows! But the king bed definitely handle it with the large bedroom

I found a couple of Unique Accessories! Beautiful Ceramic Raku Vase!
What is Raku Firing?

The Raku technique is essentially when glazed ceramics are taken from the kiln while they are still glowing red hot and are then placed in a material that would be able to catch fire, such as sawdust or newspaper. This technique is used to starve the piece of oxygen, which creates a myriad of colors within the glaze.

This is a picture of my Vintage Vignette. Little story......
My home is a mix of old and new. Our house is an old farmhouse from the 1790s, so mixing antique accessories and modern-day decor works well. I did this vignette probably 2ā€“3 years back, very on-trend. Although appropriate for this home, I admit I never knew what this style was that I creating was called until I started reading more about different styles. Whatā€™s it called? GrandMillanial! Yup, you guessed it a lot of the millennials have been relishing in this style. Mixing some of their grandmaā€™s table linen, and antiques and re-upholstering their furniture with beautiful botanical and floral peony patterns linens, and wallpaper. This style incorporates a traditional peaceful feel. Like Iā€™ve been saying ā€¦ itā€™s a feeling! It has to come from somewhere. It's our parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles that are the people we learn from. This feeling that they are creating brings back so many memories. Who doesnā€™t remember going to their grandparents and having that comfy cozy feeling? I remember going to my Nonnieā€™s house and she would be changing out those large draperies, seasonally!
I truly have always been that person who makes what they have work! I meanā€¦ you have to use what you have, you just canā€™t go out and keep buying everything all the time right? This is something my aunt Pauly would say. ( My aunt Pauly, passed away a while back. Funny her Birthday was yesterday.) Aunty Pauly taught me a lot about decorating. She help me and at the time I didn't even realize it! I have always been eclectic! Probably because I was always having to watch my money! So what do you do? You have to switch it up, recycle your stuff, and make the old look new again.
My Aunty Pauly also would tell Maria you can make s**t look like Ice Cream!
When you mix furnishing and accessories that are old and new it creates interest and becomes more unique!

Comfy, temporary basement bedroom finished! Added left over floor tile, polyurethane the stone which really cleaned up the space , small window was put in and electrical outlet on the ceiling next to night stand and recessed lighting. A pop of color on shiplap wall, using Farrow and Balls Sudbury Yellow which brings out the gold in the stone. Decor and bedding recycled for around the house .. cleaning up a end table that was sitting in the basement and has been in the family for ever. Use milk paint blue moon. I did buy a lamp and a decorative accessory of wood beads.. along with some storage baskets for guest, and 3 smallšŸŒµ cactus for the window sill!

Before & After video of a project I did awhile ago. My client was not sure if she was going to sell her condo or not after retirement. A decision was made to hold off and not buy any furnishings or reupholster a sentimental chair from her Mom.
We decided we would refresh the condo, organize and de-clutter. We painted the banister staircase with BM Hale Navy, refinished the top of her writing desk, accessorized pillows, blankets, and more. We added a new bookshelf., Bought acrylic shelving (Etsy) for the large window in the eat-in kitchen that will hold all of her plants.
My client loves to cook, her Italian heritage and all of her travels to Italy keep the kitchen area looking like a homey Flat right out of šŸ‡®šŸ‡¹ Italy! Coming from a family that owned a restaurant, she is used to having her cooking appliances out for easy excess.
Lavender is her favorite color so we incorporated it by painting her roller cart and flower pots, also we found a rug with lavender running throw it. She enjoys books & pictures and wants to keep these items out to reference anytime.

If you think that floating shelving is a short-lived fad, think again! A little historyā€¦First introduced in the 1900ā€™s
Open shelving has certainly evolved since then. Built with the need for more storage. Open shelving was then featured in mid-century homes between 1930 and 1960 as a way for homeowners to store their pots and pans and display their most prized cooking possessions
Now they can be incorporated to almost any kitchen to add a modern touch, style function. They can be practical, a easy way to grab your most used kitchen items ..small kitchen appliances, dishes., cups etc.
There are many options of floating shelving. Donā€™t be afraid to mix and match wood colors in your home ..different floor colors and different shelving colors are a nice contrast.
Make sure they are at least 12ā€ apart, plenty of room for vases , pans etc.
Here are some pros and cons !
Pros
1. Affordable
2. DIY friendly
3. Customizable
4. Easily fits any space
5. Great for the people who love to cook.
Cons
1. They tend to sang , especially if not secured well. May need maintenance.
2. They are not good for the home owner that is a bit messy in the kitchen. And want to overcrowd items.
3. They can collect a lot of dust
4. Can be a hazard for small children.. wanted to reach up and grab something they see!

As we know, Gray was quite the color trend and extremely popular for over that past 10 years! Now homeowners are looking to get rid of some of that gray, ( which can be, way too much ) but we still want to stay with those neutral tones. Homeowners want to give their home a fresh look without having to change to much. You can get rid of some of that cold gray and add some warmth to it by selecting the right color!
So letā€™s do it!
Iā€™m so excited the 2023 trend is now entering into more of brown / gray undertones .. Tan, taupe, beiges and warm off whites. In my opinion I would rather sit in a room with warmer tones then with colder tones. I mean I just love it.. always have. I find it gives me more of a relaxed feeling, I feel cozy more grounded. Thoughts??

In my clients home she still wanted to keep some gray, like a lot of homeowners that have re-built, newly built or renovated there homes in the last 5-10 years she felt like she had just painted the room not long ago.
But, Happily my client agreed it was just too much gray!
In her home we did kept the gray on the timeless wainscoting feature which looks modern and fresh. But we got rid of the gray she had on the walls and we used BM Clay Beige. These two neutral tones combined really made the room look rich and is a great contrast.

Iā€™m sorry no before and after pics. I will take other picture when the client get all of her furniture in the room. Still some floor and electrical work to do!
Oh did I mention , I have the best clinet EVER, thank you Judy, you are so awesome to work with !!

Ideas on how do you make your wainscoting or walls look modern?

1. Update classic wainscoting with modern colors. ...
2. Use gloss paint to reflect light. ...
3. Pair traditional wainscoting with a modern wallpaper. ...
4. Use bold wainscoting to balance out an accent. ...
5. Contrast old and new materials. ...
6. Create contrast with playful, quirky decor. ...
7. Create an all-contemporary design.
