Alabama unfortunately got a shout out in this article by Caitlin O'Kane but if you've noticed an increase in you electricity bill (I know I have!) lately, it could be due to the heatwave the nation is currently experiencing. With upcoming temps raising to 96 and a heat index of at least 105 this week, be on the look out to shell even more $ to Alabama Company.
For those in need of assistance during this heatwave, I've included a list of Cooling Station (swipe) now open in Birmingham and will be on the look out for orgs offering financial assistance for electricity bills at this time.

Let's make this anniversary bash one for the books! 🌬️🎈
Hey! We made it to Friday!✨🎉
We want to thank all of our staff, board, volunteers, and supporters from all of the work we’ve been put in these past few weeks and weekends.
We’ve put in a lot of time in Canvassing, celebrating air quality awareness week, gearing up for our 15th anniversary party, hosting markets, listening sessions, and more behind the scenes! It takes a lot of determination and commitment to advocate for what you believe in and we wouldn’t be able to do that without our community, our people.
This weekend, while we aren’t canvassing, or hosting a market or listening session, we’re still honoring our dedication to creating positive change. Whether it’s a moment of self-care, connecting with loved ones, or simply enjoying the little things, we’re grateful for the opportunity to recharge and refuel for the journey ahead. Together, we’re making strides of impact.
It's always great to wake up to good news! 📰

Healthy Air Actions From EPA In Recent Months In the last few months, EPA has finalized many rules that will help us be healthy and thrive by cleaning up the air and putting limits on greenhouse gases. The Alabama Department of Environmental Management, ADEM, has issued an Air Quality Alert for Jefferson and Shelby Counties for Wednesday, May 1, 2024.
Under Code Orange conditions, ground level ozone concentrations are expected to reach levels that are unhealthy for sensitive groups. Children and people with asthma are individuals most at risk under these expected conditions.
ADEM recommends the following actions during an air quality alert for ozone:
- Conserve electricity and set your air conditioner at a higher temperature.
- Limit driving and combine errands.
- Use the bus or car pool to work.
- Avoid use of gasoline power lawn and garden equipment.
- Refuel cars and trucks after 6 PM.
- Limit engine idling.
- Use household, workshop, and garden chemicals in ways that keep evaporation to a minimum, or try to avoid them when poor air quality is forecast.
- If breathing becomes difficult, move indoors.
