Trāṭaka meditation video🙏🏼 If you’d like to start (or restart) a meditation practice, light gazing is a powerful tool. Meditating with a candle helps keep your attention fixed so you can be in the moment.
According to a Yoga International article cited below “The Hatha Yoga Pradipika defines Trāṭaka as ‘looking intently with an unwavering gaze until tears are shed.’” It’s counter-indicated for certain people (like those with glaucoma) and certainly you do not have to form tears to meditate.
This meditation style originated in ancient India, and is found in both the Hatha Yoga Pradipika and the Shiva Samhita (Ashok, The Art of Trataka Focus). Trāṭaka was an integral practice to ancient yogic traditions and is still used today in modern practices.
Having a meditation practice is beneficial in many ways, some of the most important being the connection you have to yourself. I hope this helps you, or inspires you in your mediations and please let me know if this works for you!

Zenergy Bodywork aspires to be a place of peace and solitude, where people can come and find relief from outside stress. Zenergy was started in 2014 by Brooke Benson, who went to the Birmingham School of Massage to learn neuromuscular techniques that target muscular aches and pains. ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ Allow me to re-introduce myself. I run a privately practicing massage therapy office that is in Cahaba Heights, Alabama. I'm so honored to work with both short-term and long-term clients and have been inspired by massage to continue a pursuit into Physical Therapy (eventually!) Both my clients and schooling has taught me so much, and I would be happy to help in any way that I can. Zenergy is open by appointment Tuesdays-Saturdays and is taking holiday bookings now. I'll be fully available as the calendar online lists, but if you have any questions for me or would prefer to book via text please let me know! Stay Well, and Happy Holidays! -Brooke
a bit about Dry Brushing
One of the techniques that I often recommend for lymphatic drainage is dry brushing. Dry brushing is a technique where a dry, natural-bristled brush is used to gently massage the skin in an upward motion, always toward the heart. So start distally (away from the center of the body) and move towards your heart when you are dry brushing with very gentle pressure.
This technique is particularly effective for stimulating the lymphatic system, which is responsible for removing waste and toxins from the body. The lymphatic system is a network of vessels and organs that helps to maintain fluid balance, remove waste, and fight infections. When the lymphatic system is not functioning properly, it can cause a variety of health problems.
While dry brushing is primarily used for lymphatic drainage and exfoliation of the skin, it can also have a relaxing effect, so it's best to do it at night as part of your bedtime routine. The gentle pressure and motion of the brush can help to stimulate the nerve endings in the skin, which promote feelings of relaxation and calmness.
Additionally, dry brushing can be a form of self-care and a way to take a few moments to focus on yourself. By taking the time to dry brush, you can create a mindful and meditative experience.
