Great news! We still don't know the fate of our camp at Children's Harbor in April, but if you are really missing the lake, CH has a great opportunity for a free weekend at the lake over spring break.

I'm really sorry to say that the latest COVID surge is preventing us from holding our meeting in September. Our last meeting was in February 2020 and we really miss having you all together. We will be rescheduling for our usual April date ins 2022 and sincerely hope that COVID is just a bad memory by then.
In the meantime, if you want to understand more about how the vaccine works, Dr. Brian Samuels, a glaucoma specialist here at Callahan made a great presentation. https://vimeo.com/586952395/7577ae8b19
I was vaccinated in December, as were all of the providers in the Center for Low Vision Rehabilitation. UAB is making COVID vaccination required for employment (employees must show proof of full vaccination by November) - that's how much the scientists and clinicians here believe in the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine.
Dr. David Kimberlin, the co-director of Children's of Alabama/UAB Division of Pediatric Infectious disease talks about how much more transmissible the Delta variant is than the variant we dealt with last winter. Childrens of Alabama has 10 more children with COVID as inpatients than they did at the peak of the winter surge. Several are on ventilators. https://www.wsfa.com/video/2021/08/13/significant-increase-covid-patients-children-alabama/
Vaccination does not prevent all COVID disease, but it does significantly reduce the risk of hospitalization or death. The Pfizer vaccine gained full FDA approval today! We hope you'll consider getting the vaccine if you have not done so already!

Children's Harbor Event - Songs for Sight Youth Low Vision Support Group. It feels like forever since we've been together! I know some of you are wondering about our April weekend. Due to the pandemic, we just cannot do it next month. But, Children's Harbor has graciously allowed us to reschedule to September 17-19. Save this date! It is still tentative, depending on the pandemic situation, but we are hoping to hold our camp weekend then!
