Each team member is involved in all aspects of the training sessions provided. There is no need for each team member to share disciplines; however, each member must choose a discipline they will represent when applying.
The STR program will begin with an online orientation and training session on November 15, 2024. Once-a-month online training sessions will continue in December, January, and February. Apply for the Inquiro Editorial board!
Founded in 2007, Inquiro is the premiere student-run annual science journal from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Inquiro was established to create a platform where the research contributions of undergraduate students from across campus could be published and highlighted. UAB is the center of scientific research and healthcare in Alabama and encourages its students to participate in discovery. The undergraduate body makes large contributions to the field, and Inquiro gives those students a voice in the scientific community.

"Got a Question? Ask a Blazer!" was started in the fall of 2012 by a group of students who saw a need for new students at UAB requiring assistance in navigating the campus on their first days of classes.
Over the years the Divisions of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management have carried on this initiative in an effort to provide students with easy access to the support and guidance needed during the first two days of classes. Better known as Ask a Blazer!, this program gives returning students, faculty, an staff the opportunity to volunteer to support our new students during the first two days of classes.
This year, "Ask a Blazer" will take place on Monday, August 26th and Tuesday, August 27th from 7:30am-5:30pm in the following locations:
โญ๏ธCampus Green-North
โญ๏ธCampus Green-South (closes at 3:30pm)

The 2025 Gulf South Summit will take place March 26-28, 2025, in Nashville, TN. The theme for the 2025 Gulf-South Summit is, "Celebrating Harmony & Learning from Dissonance."
The Gulf-South Summit welcomes presentation submissions that display and strengthen scholarship, advocate applied learning and social responsibility, apply solutions to complex challenges, and innovation to in-service learning. Presentations might include service-learning programs, courses, and partnerships and how to impact students and communities through knowledge, engagement, and action.
Presentation Formats: Individual Presentation, Interactive Workshop, or a Panel Discussion
When preparing for this proposal; here are some guiding questions to ask:
How do we engage students in the service-learning community in these trying times?
What actions should we take to promote service-learning at our institutions?
How can we teach our students the importance of community and service-based learning in a more technological world?
Effective presentations should go beyond the โwhatโ (i.e., purely descriptive), and include a grounding in context and practice (โso what?โ) as well as lessons learned and recommendations for future practice or replication by others (โnow what?โ).
Do you know of a community partner or fellow faculty member who has demonstrated excellence in engaging with students and service learning projects? Nominate them for an award at the Gulf State Summit! Learn more about the 2025 Awards & Nominations here: https://www.gulfsouthsummit.org/2025-conference/2025-awards-and-nominations-upgrade-draft/
