This is an amazing step in the right direction. This county had a terrible history of racial violence and now, some people are trying to help the descendents of those victims have a better life. This is the change we should hope to see in parts of our nation with such a terrible history.

Jeffery was sentenced to 80 years DOC for a Robbery 1st degree. Maxwell + Tillman post-conviction Attorney, Gabby Humber, challenged his sentence and the court of criminal appeals ruled that his sentence was illegal. After several resentencing hearings, she finally secured a time served sentence and Jeffery was immediately released! Jeffery is now home with his supportive family and fiancé!

Our justice system is broken. The mistreatment of incarcerated people is already horrible, but it is even worse when it happens to children. Hopefully this federal lawsuit brings change, but it shouldn’t take a federal lawsuit for these states to do the right thing. However, they often don’t seem to care when bad things are happening to Black and brown people.
