Let me tell you during the last 14 years of owning a trucking company it's crazy how many men have stolen from my company. Owner Ops call in and say their trucks have broken down, or call in sick only to go work for someone else. All the while they have been armed with a fuel card and they use it while working elsewhere hoping they won't get caught.

I never understood why a trucking company has to foot the bill for an owner operator except its customary. How many times have you pulled up to a fuel pump and not had to pay for your fuel at that time? (credit cards excluded in this thought process)

What I have learned is that truck drivers have a tendency when faced with having to tell the truth - embellishing is their better answer. Why is it so hard to just come out and say.... I damaged your truck. Is it because they would have to be responsible? Is it because they are afraid of getting fired? Is it because they don't want to pay for their damages?

I'm not sure what goes through someone's head when faced with telling the truth, but the right answer is to tell the truth. I get that s**t happens out there in the real world and people are careless and accidents happen, but when your boss looks at you in your face or calls you out on your lie why is it so hard to just .... admit it? I know the truth and want to see what you say... you know what that makes you look like? An untrustworthy POS.

Sadly trucking companies are stuck with price of damages, repairs, accidents, tickets, bad scores due to driver error, you name it. Basically stuck footing the bill for the irresponsibilities of others... it's just sad.

After all this being said - with the trucking environment the way it is right now - drivers coming and going - leaving damages in their wake there should be a way to measure drivers who are good drivers versus bad drivers....

Oh yes - I invented this - its on the Mother Trucker app - it's called 5 star truckers. This is the way...

Just be honest.

Creating the life you want definitely comes with its challenges.

The most obvious is lack of sleep. Especially in trucking.

There are drivers who push buttons to get the most that they can out of trucking companies. Hey I can't blame them for trying, however if you truly know what it takes to run a trucking company and to move forward with your dreams then you know yow will run into a ton of the most "experienced drivers" with a million years of driving and yet they don't even know how to run an ELD or fill up their surge tank with coolant so their check engine light doesn't come on. Hell, last week a new "experienced driver" called my mechanic out to help him because his truck kept shutting off. The guy didn't realize it has an auto shut off after 7 minutes to protect the environment smh - yup we get all kinds....

Over the years I have had drivers who think they know what it takes to run a trucking company from the view of their truck without ever stepping foot in a business environment. I just want to say everyone has their place.

I've seen drivers get their trucks, their own DOT, fail and come back knocking down my door. I've also seen more drivers SUCCEED. In fact I have helped hundreds of drivers become successful over the years. It makes me happy to see truckers succeed.

In this environment those who succeed are true winners. They have done what it takes to be successful and to stay there and most of all they have not given up and they have pushed through these hard times so they truly know what it takes right now.

We are growing our business tremendously right now. It's from doing the hard work. It's from having the right team and it's from doing the work. Consistently, over and over and over.

Stay hydrated! Having at least one gallon of fresh water on hand while driving a commercial truck in the heat is a must.

Drinks high in electrolytes, on the other hand, are a no-brainer as well.
