Joined Kokushi Midwest for the Neil Adams seminar. Of course I requested that he throw me with our tokui waza (favorite technique) which is Tai Otoshi. While Fukan Judo may not have a physical space right now, we're still out here soaking up knowledge from the great ones whenever we can. So when the time is right, we'll jump right back into it. Thank you, Grace, Neil, and Niki, for putting this on! π₯πββοΈ
Goro is sorry to do this but he's still feeling a little π©π€ but he promises to be ready to start back at Fukan Judo tomorrow. He thanks all of you for the well wishes and patience during his recovery. Take care of each other out there! πΆπ₯πββοΈ
Heads up: Fukan Judo is canceled tonight because our resident mascot Goro is recovering from surgery today. He will see everyone back on the mats tomorrow. Take care of each other out there! πΆπ₯πββοΈ
Excited for Fukan Judo and IU Judo to be supporting the 25th Annual Tohkon Classic Judo Tournament! (Minus a 2 year break we won't talk about...)
Love seeing a bunch of familiar faces I haven't seen in so long. A LOT of great competitors out there prepping for what looks to be a fun day! Take care of each other out there! π₯πββοΈ
Excited to be here coaching a couple competitors from the Judo Club at IU in Portland, IN at the Indiana State Championship!
Are you an IU grappler π€Όπ½ββοΈ who's recently become a ronin π destined to wander the wastelands of Bloomington all summer long until club sports opens up the 095 mat room dojo π― again in the fall semester?
Fukan Judo is happy to welcome all transient troublemakers looking to get a lil mat time to tide them over until then.
We have a variety of opportunities from monthly judo class memberships to one-day mat fees to club space rentals (both hourly and monthly). ππΈπͺ
Get your time in while you still can! This opportunity is only available until the end of July then we'll be packing up the program to search for new horizons! π
Thanks to everyone who's supported us so far. We'll see you on the mats! π₯πββοΈ
You're invited to Fukan Judo's Virtual Workout Session tonight at 7:30pm! π»π₯π₯΅
We'll be doing some movement drills for most of the class to make it as accessible as possible for people while the snow piles up outside. No special equipment is necessary as we are just looking to build speed, agility, and endurance with these drills. The only requirements are a roughly 6x6 ft space for moving (depending on your stride) and a good spirit!
**You will need either the Zoom Meeting ID and pass code OR the Zoom Meeting link in order to access the class. Reach out to us and we'll gladly provide that for you.**
Take care of each other out there! π₯πββοΈ
Fukan Judo is canceled tonight. Goro wanted to give everyone time to prep for Snowpocalypse 4.0: The Icy Tomb! πΆπ§π¨π₯Ά
But TOMORROW we'll be hosting a virtual workout for all those interested! It will be movement drills to help with agility, speed, and endurance. And they can be done solo at home! 7:30-9:30pm as usual!
Stay safe out there! See you soon! π₯πββοΈ
With sensei heading out on a company trip Fukan Judo class is canceled tonight! Stay safe, stay warm, and we'll see you next week! π₯πββοΈ
Great job tonight! Heard the Judo Club at IU was rough tonight but that's no reason to ease up for the class at Fukan Judo. A lot of improvement all around. Especially while working on the throw Sode Tsurikomi Goshi. What a doozy! Sleep well, judoka!

Action shots of Goro saying it's still family time for us this week, so Fukan Judo's regularly scheduled classes are canceled til the new year!
But if you want to reach out privately about getting some mat time in, hit us up! We'd be happy to find time to shake up that holiday weight with you!
Take care of each other out there! π₯πββοΈ
Fukan Judo classes are canceled this week!
Goro thinks everyone should take some time to recover and be with loved ones OFF the mat for a change.
We'll have open mat times available next week for anyone interested. No dedicated lessons. Just bring any questions or even an interest in working off the gallons of eggnog, mulled wine, and cider had over winter solstice and the coming holiday.
Take care of each other out there! π₯πββοΈ
Fukan Judo is canceled tonight π

Head sensei isn't available and Sensei Liam is taking a recovery day. Clean those gis and we'll be back at it tomorrow! π₯π§Όπ€©
Great night at Fukan Judo! We worked on attacking the turtle, which is a popular position for judo players with a terrible ground game (but a great position for those of us who love to make turtle soup of them)! π’π₯£
Here we see Sensei Liam and Sensei Geoff watching with bated breath as their students try to wreck one another.
Take care of each other out there! π₯πββοΈ
Fukan Judo class tonight is canceled!
Head instructor needs to dedicate some time to emergency maintenance on his vehicle and won't be able to make it. π»π β οΈ
Goro encourages everyone to take this time to fill up on snacks!

Happy Thursday, everyone!
Fukan Judo will be joining IU's First Thursday event TODAY on campus along 7th Street 4-7pm! Feel free to drop by, chat, and support us at our booth. We'll have a special informational montage vid for people curious about the school.
Excited to keep expanding the space and our effect on the community. Take care of each other! π₯πββοΈ
It's here! It's here! Bigger and better things always on the horizon for us as we improve programming and resources for Fukan Judo and Ambassadors of Shuleo LLC. Excited to break in the new section of mats at the dojo.

Last minute change of plans tonight for Fukan Judo! Since a lot of our regular judoka are out tonight. My fellow black belt and I are swinging in to IU BJJ to check things out and work on our ground game. No class at Fukan tonight. See you all next week! π₯πββοΈ
>>Sam and Paul's easygoing vibe made Southpaw the welcoming place they needed. In addition to fight commentary, the show features analysis of the sport from a leftist perspective. There are interviews with fighters like Fallon Fox, the first professional trans MMA fighter, and discussions of other martial arts like muay Thai, sumo, and wrestling. Sam and Paul have also conducted interviews with Chicago's Haymaker gym, which explicitly describes itself as an "anti-oppressive and anti-fascist" gym, and Englandβs Reading Red Corner, a left-wing boxing club. In one episode, they spoke to the scholar Dr. Gerald Horne, who wrote The Bittersweet Science: Racism, Racketeering, and the Political Economy of Boxing.
These leftist podcasters want to make MMA a more progressive fight club The Trump presidency turned MMA into a chud-filled hub of racism and sexism. 'Southpaw' wants to offer an alternative.
Just a lil signage craft to make things look more official! π¨ππππ₯πββοΈ
And some inspiration from the ever vigilant Goro portrait constantly judging my work thanks to the crazy talented Pizzaface
First week is always FREE to try out Judo for the first time and see all the fun we're having!
*BELT PROMOTION ALERT!*
Stephanie Frame has really proven herself since getting her last promotion pre-pandemic (when she earned her last belt by being the partner for our head instructor's black belt test that ran for 3 hours...). She shows a continued willingness and competency for trying new more advanced techniques while also keeping any ego at bay. Key factors in developing a model judoka. Congrats, Steph! We look forward to seeing you and everyone else on the mats if you're in search of some fun and physical activity! π₯πββοΈ
Two BIG Developments for Fukan Judo:
#1 Financial accessibility π€π°
#2 Growth opportunities ππͺ
ACCESSIBILITY:
SHULEO LLC was started as a business to provide accessible health and wellness programming to lower income families and minority groups, who wouldn't normally have such programs within reach.
So in addition to our regular monthly membership to our Judo school, we are now introducing options for a 1-day mat fee as well as a weekly membership!
Day pass: $7
Weekly membership: $15
Monthly membership: $50
Having a choice between the daily, weekly, or monthly membership will allow people a range of affordable options when planning their schedule and finances.
And as always, your first week of classes is FREE!
OPPORTUNITY:
We understand that getting a fitness/health & wellness program up and running is a big undertaking that often requires a lot of up front costs.
To help with that, SHULEO is opening up applications for Ambassadors to the space. Ambassadors will have key access to our mat room and facilities for usage in the development of their programming. Included with the price of each month's Ambassador membership is one month of classes at Fukan Judo that you are welcome to use or gift to a person of your choice! Reach out to us for further details if you're looking for a place to train or start growing your program.
Hope to see you all on the mats soon! Take care of each other! π₯πββοΈ
Who's down to grab a glass of cider after practice tonight??? Friendly Beasts and Fukan Judo are both located at Artisan Alley on 2nd St! A great opportunity to socialize after trying to beat each other up! π€π₯π€π»π
Trivia with returns to the cidery tomorrow at 7:00 along with our Thursday hours (5:00 to 10:00pm). Friends, including the four legged kind, and outside food are always welcome.
Tonight's Fukan Judo class is canceled.
Due to illnesses, injuries, last minute scheduling conflicts, etc. Most of our regular judoka including sensei won't be able to make it tonight. So make sure all your gis are clean and your nails are clipped for tomorrow's class, which is always Ne-waza Wednesday where we focus on our ground game. Take care of each other! π₯πββοΈ
A lot of great points here from Shintaro Higashi about shaking the lapel that gave us flashbacks of the good ole days under Sensei Cody Sexton at Rampart Judo. When sensei started to flap your lapel like the wings of a murderous butterfly...you knew he was about to send you flying! πͺπ₯π¦πβ οΈ
Shake that gi! Quite often you hear people shout: "Shake that gi!" and you might see some senior players in the dojo doing this gi-shaking action too. Why do they do this? ...
Heads up, everyone:
Fukan Judo classes are canceled this week. The head sensei tested positive for COVID this morning, so we're taking precautions to make sure all of you stay safe. Sensei is vaccinated, so we're expecting it to be the delta variant. Symptoms are light and he is currently isolating to protect everyone around him.
Take care of each other. As a measure of that: get vaccinated to slow down the spread of this virus.

We always appreciate people coming out to see what we do and enjoy the laughs. See you all at the social event, Fukan Judo's Open House, tomorrow night 6-9pm! Take care of each other! π₯πββοΈπ¨βπ©βπ§βπ¦
In order to prep for our event this Friday night, our usual Ne-waza Wednesday class at Fukan Judo is CANCELED tonight. We'll see you all on the mats tomorrow and at the shindig on Friday!
