This house just got bigger as we welcomed 78 new members into Chi Omega!

We are thrilled to share our sisterhood with these new ladies!

Sorority membership provides an opportunity for members to reach their fullest potentials and gain access to a supportive network of women that will help them grow far beyond their college days.

Chi Omega is the largest sorority in the National Panhellenic Conference, with the most members and the most collegiate chapters. While we are proud of being the largest fraternal network for women, we are even more proud of the values our Sisters exhibit every day.

Rather than focusing on “fitting in,” Chi Omega provides a space for our members to belong… a place for Sisters to connect with like-hearted friends who live authentically and who are there for one another when it matters.

We know these 78 members will fit like a missing puzzle piece! We are blessed and WILL HAVE HER WELFARE EVER AT ❤️!

Our very own HCB member is highlighted in the latest version of The Eleusis! Laura is a very dedicated Chi Omega - doing 2 notable volunteer roles along with other various activities along with being newly married and full time employee. We are blessed to have her on our team!

❤️💛

Preference Round done with elegance and style!

Well done Chi Omega! Recruitment went well and we are proud of your efforts!

This day was all about the feels! Chapter members reflected on why they fell in love with this sisterhood; Advisors and HCB members remembered their younger years and were inspired to continue to mentor; and PNMs watched and began to make the true connection to our motto! We all were bonded this day and we look forward to deepening our relationships and enriching our lives in Chi Omega!

Thank you ! Your hard work paid off and it shows! 🦉

We all know the power of food to bring people from all backgrounds, interests, and upbringings together. It’s so powerful, in fact, that Chi Omegas often lovingly refer to it as our seventh purpose!

The gathering of friends around a meal has been a source of Sisterhood for decades, whether it’s the first meal you eat on Bid Day as you mingle anxiously with your new pledge class, the routine nightly dinners in the chapter house that often erupt in contagious laughter, the countless late night pizza runs to fuel a sleepless study night, or bringing a Sister back home to share your family Thanksgiving with when her own family lives too far away.

The conversation and Sisterhood that happen around these meals is something to be thankful for. These moments connect us and allow time to gather, share, and recollect. They serve as a springboard for Sisterhood and community where we can take a moment to sit and be present with each other. Whether or not the exact outcomes of this time together are planned, they are always on purpose.

Enjoy the meal, embrace the moment, and encourage love and laughter.

Chi Omega sends you blessings…

The Chi Omega Symphony

“To live constantly above snobbery of word or deed; to place scholarship before social obligations and character before appearances; to be in the best sense, democratic rather than “exclusive”, and lovable rather than “popular”; to work earnestly, to speak kindly, to act sincerely, to choose thoughtfully that course which occasion and conscience demand; to be womanly always; to be discouraged never; in a word, to be loyal under any and all circumstances to my Fraternity and her highest teachings and to have her welfare ever at heart that she may be a symphony of high purpose and helpfulness in which there is no discordant note.”

Honoring George DiRocco and ensuring Chi O is prepared to help when an emergency strikes!

The DiRocco family partnered with a nonprofit (In A Heartbeat Foundation ) who donated an AED to Chi Omega.

George passed away in his 2020 and was barely in high school. He suffered from an undiagnosed heart condition and when he went into cardiac arrest, at age 16, he passed. An AED would have saved his life.

Chi Omega now has a Defib Tech Lifeline Automated External Defibrillator and an Alarmed Wall Cabinet.

AEDs are becoming increasingly more important to have in communal spaces. And we want to ensure our Chi Omega sisters are protected!

Chi O is paving the way as they are one of the first to own an AED.

Thank you Deborah and Tori for sharing your story and allowing us to honor George!

THANK YOU IN A HEARTBEAT FOUNDATION!

Today we remember those that gave ALL for our freedoms!

While at a Memorial Day ceremony, Jenny Tracy, wife of a retired Veteran and veteran advocate, visited with Shelli Yoder, who is serving in the Indiana Senate for Monroe County, Indiana from Senate District 40.

Both of these ladies are leaders and Chi Omegas! Shelli attended Hanover College while Jenny went to Arizona State University!

Monroe County is blessed to have these ladies assisting our community and Chi Omega helped mold them into the servant leaders they are today!❤️🇺🇸💛

There is nothing more beautiful than finding your course as you believe you bob aimlessly in the current. Wouldn’t you know that your path was there all along, waiting for you to knock, waiting for you to become. This path does not belong to your parents, your teachers, your leaders, or your lovers. Your path is your character defining itself more and more everyday like a photograph coming into focus.

Congratulations to our Senior sisters! Go conquer the world!!! Remember the alumnae chapter is here when you are ready to volunteer. We know that our younger sisters who are just starting their journey could use some wisdom from those that just crossed the bridge of success!

Best wishes!

Chi O - yours forever! ❤️🎓💛

Enjoying lunch with the Chi O House Director, Noni! House Corp Board Secretary, Lisa, and Director of Communication, Jenny loved learning more about Noni and the life of a House Director! We laughed, shared stories, expressed ways on how we can grow over the next year…. Women inspiring women! Chi Omega brings women together for the good!

The 2023 Little 500 women’s race marks the 35th race in its history.

We are proud of Chi Omega! They finished 21st this year! Over the years they have qualified for 26 races and their average finish is 17.2!

Chi Omega has just one top-five finish spanning over 25 races. They came in second in 1998.

This year’s cause is Students Helping Students!!! The Students Helping Students Campaign is raising funds through a peer to peer campaign for the IU Bloomington Food Insecurity Fund. The IUB Food Insecurity Fund helps finance the IU Crimson Cupboard. The Crimson Cupboard supports IU students who are struggling with food insecurity by allowing them to shop for food that is free of cost at their various campus locations.

Nice work Chi O ❤️🚴‍♀️💛 !

Founded in 1895 at the University of Arkansas, Chi Omega is the largest women’s fraternal organization in the world with over 400,000 Initiates, 181 collegiate chapters, and 248 alumnae chapters.

Throughout Chi Omega’s long and proud history, the Fraternity has brought its members unequaled opportunities for personal growth and development.

Jobelle Holcombe,
Chi Omega Founder, said “When we looked upon that pin, our hearts then opened up to Chi Omega. Even though we were very young, we must have realized something about the spirit of the Fraternity.”

Our Sisters are committed to Chi Omega’s six purposes. These purposes guide each Chi Omega member and include the following:

-Friendship
-High Standards of Personnel
-Sincere Learning and Credible Scholarship
-Participation in Campus Activities
-Career Development
-Community Service

The message of “personal responsibility” cannot be shared enough. Each member’s choices and actions affect the entire chapter and our national organization.

By embracing Chi Omega’s six purposes and placing our values at the root of our words, thoughts, and actions, we are able to truly enjoy one another as Sisters and as friends.

Introducing LISA POWELL!

Lisa grew up in Cheney, WA- a small college town outside of Spokane!

She is a proud member of Beta Beta which is located at Washington State University and she was initiated in 1986!

She joined Chi Omega through informal rush! She shared “I didn't think I would be in a sorority going into college. I'm not even sure I knew it was an option.” One semester she had a class with a couple of Chi O's. And they shared with her info about informal rush. So she explored it and rushed 7 other sororities, but in the end new Chi Omega was the sorority for her!

Lisa recently joined the HCB and is excited to connect with other Chi O’s! She explained, “I loved the friendships I made in Chi Omega as a student and really appreciated the values we were taught and encouraged to live by. I remember my time in Chi Omega so fondly, so when I was contacted by a member of the Theta Beta HCB to see if I wanted to join them, I didn't hesitate.”

Lisa still connects with her sisters at WSU! In fact, every Christmas a few of her pals get together and exchange owl ornaments and have a great time reliving their Chi Omega days! She enjoys going back to visit WSU and going to see the Chi Omega house. Beta Beta has had a few remodels and she likes to see how it's changed. But she also mentioned… “it is also nice to see what has stayed the same”.

We are thrilled to have this west coast alum join our ranks as we work to improve the Theta Beta living experience and impart our wisdom on college opportunities.

Thank you, Lisa, for taking that chance to rush as it brought you through all these exciting adventures to be here with us at Indiana University!

Spring is here! And Chi Omega is springing into action.

After a long, cold winter, there’s nothing better than hearing birds chirping and being able to open up your windows to let in a breath of fresh air. Not to mention, the first sign of a warm spring day is the perfect excuse to get back outside and start enjoying all of those seasonal activities you missed so much.

Spring is certainly an inspiring season. This season brings the feelings of change is a-comin for the better! Often people refer to spring as coming out of the darkness and new beginnings!

Chi Omega is embracing the season and already our landscaping is prepared with plant growth, vibrant colors of flowers, and the addition of fresh mulch. The house looks beautiful!

With the season change, the weather shifts and last night Indiana was rocked by severe weather. The ladies and our House Director, Noni, took every precaution and bunkered down. Good news - our Theta Betas are SAFE!

The Chi Omega House Corp Board wishes the ladies of Chi Omega at Indiana University hope!

May each student increase their work efforts so they achieve academic excellence at the end of the semester!

May these young women continue to know their self worth and allow their positivity to encourage others!

Learn from your mistakes and know that this is growth! It’s ok not to be perfect!

Enjoy these moments and know we are here to support you!

Wishing you a great spring and keep pushing forward on those goals!

❤️Love in Chi O💛

Meet your HOUSE CORP BOARD President!

Traci Shindell Jovanovic

Traci grew up in Stillwater, Oklahoma and for her undergraduate degree she headed to Oklahoma State. In 1981 while attending college, her father landed the role as Director of the Indiana University Memorial Union, so while in college her family relocated to Bloomington, Indiana.

Traci is a proud member of Tau Beta and was initiated in 1981! She is a legacy! Her mother, Elizabeth Tegeler Shindell was a Tau Beta in 1957 and she served 20 years on the House Corp Board at OSU!

Traci reflects on her college years and said she had no doubt that she was going to be in Greek life as she watched her mom dedicate many hours to Chi Omega (and she as a kid often helped with the yard work). Elizabeth hoped her daughter would pledge whatever house felt right. However, as Traci went through recruitment, her mother had already sewn her daughter a stunning red owl quilt to give her on bid day. So Traci suspects that her Mom really wanted her to pledge Chi Omega. Traci stated,” I wanted to be a Chi O at OSU as they were and ARE an amazing chapter!”

Kappa Kappa Gamma caught her eye during rush, but in the end Chi O had her heart!

Traci has gone back to her alma mater and visited with her Chi O sisters! In fact, this past weekend she was a part of the ribbon-cutting for the new Tau Beta house that was just built! She shared that she is very proud of her chapters outpouring support. 20 of her pledge sisters were with her to celebrate this accomplishment. There is no doubt that this sisterhood is for a lifetime!

As the current House, Corp. Board President, Traci is eager to assist Theta Beta at Indiana University.

She volunteers because she loves what Chi Omega has done for her and her many friends. She wants to ensure that other women benefit as much as possible from the experience.

In her role, she hopes to continue to drive improvements in the house, so that young women are able to be their best in college. We are helping women be confident as they move into the professional world!

Chi O makes a difference and Traci is a part of that effort!💛❤️

Initiation is completed and we are blessed to add 63 young women to our roll book!

It was wonderful to watch a mother and her daughter connect on yet another level! The Leaman’s are both a part of the Theta Beta tradition! Heidi Ockomon Leaman enjoyed her years at IU and is thrilled to pass the traditions to Savannah!

So grateful that these 2 got to share this moment!

❤️💛

Giving is always a trait a Chi Omega possess!

100 Cooks That Care took place this past weekend and lots of money was raised for the MCCSC FOUNDATION/WONDERLAB!

As I enjoyed delicious food, I noticed a fellow Chi Omega giving to the cause!

Leslie Carmichael was supporting the Weddle Brothers Team and enjoying her time while donating time and funds to a great event! Tyce Carmichael, Leslie’s hubby, has been a part of this initiative for over 5 years! And she is right by his side cheering him on!

Leslie is an Upsilon Lambda from Hanover College. She has provided her service in many ways - Recruitment Advisor (IU), Records & Cardinal Cabinet Advisor (IU), Social Activities Advisor (Hanover), and currently is an Area Recruitment Information Chair.

If you see Leslie, give her a shout out for being a symphony of high purpose and helpfulness!
