Continuing our series of sharing who we are. Last week, we shared Demetris Campbell's story from our Blythewood location. This week, it's Hannah's turn.

This is Hannah from our Forest Acres location (formerly one of our shift supervisors at Blythewood). Hannah "Grace" is one of our front of the house Hosts at our newest location. She was born and raised in Blythewood and graduated from Blythewood High School. She's been with Chubby's for a couple of years and is one of our absolute best team members from either location. When's she not at work, she takes care of her numerous nieces and likes to travel - hopefully one day to the islands of Bora Bora. When she is at work, she enjoys picking on the team in the kitchen whether they deserve it or not. She's a licensed esthetician and eventually wants to become a cosmetologist. If you come by, say hi and strike up a conversation.

New Special starting tomorrow - Atomic Burger - Ghost Pepper Jack cheese, candied Jalapeños, “Burn in Hell” aioli, and crispy onion strings - with our signature smash patties and Brioche bun. While supplies last at our Blythewood and Forest Acres locations. A little bit of a kick but yummy.

Special starting today only at our Blythewood location - the DC burger (as in Demetris Campbell our Kitchen manager) bacon chipotle burger sauce, grilled onions, jalapeños, pepper jack cheese with buffalo chips sandwiched between two slabs of texas toast - while supplies last.

Every week, I'm gonna introduce you to a member of our team. Starting off is Demetris Campbell. Dee is our Kitchen Manager for Chubby's Blythewood. He and Rash*ta have 7 beautiful children, Brianna, Braylah, Samariyah, Jayden, Demetris Jr., D'mire Jr and Kamara. Dee was born in Sacramento CA but raised right here in Columbia SC. He went to high school at Spring Valley. Dee started cooking at the young age of 8 with his grandma and has loved cooking ever since. Dee has over 16 years of cooking experience in places like the Blue Marlin, Cracker Barrel, Eggs Up Grill, and worked for various fraternity houses at USC. When's he not in the kitchen, he spends time with his kids and coaches AAU travel Basketball. Besides the food he cooks for our customers, he's partial to cooking sweet, salty, and spicy Korean foods. If you see him at our Blythewood location, feel free to say hi and strike up a conversation - don't worry, he fiercely controls the kitchen but he's a big teddy bear at hear - he has to be with 7 kids.

In the vein of full disclosure as I've alluded to before. Let me say a bit about last night.

A few patrons came up to me today to warn me that I might get a bit of flack about a little bit of a disagreement between two of my cooks last night @ the new Percival location. Apparently they had some words and one of them stormed off to cool his head. First of all, let me apologize for this. Customers shouldn't have to witness anything of this kind. Secondly, they have been spoken to and it's been made clear that this is unacceptable behavior. Thirdly, no excuse but sometimes it literally and figuratively gets heated in the kitchen so please understand. Lastly, I'm a guy who believes in second chances (perhaps third, fourth, fifth chances😀). None of us wants to be judged by their behavior on one of their worst days. Thanks for your understanding and for those who have already visited us - thanks for trying us out and as I've said to many customers over the past few days - feel free to be brutally honest - I like good feedback but love constructive ones about what we got wrong or how we can do better - I can't change everything or if I do, it'll take time but I do listen to all the comments. It's the only way we as a team can get better. Thanks.

Thank you everyone for your patience. First of all, let me thank Chris & Amy for creating this great brand and wish them well in their future plans. What they started in their driveway in Lake Carolina is strong and has the potential to grow.

How about a little bit of introduction? My name is Paul Yoo. I've lived in Columbia for almost 15 years now. My first experience with Columbia was as a recruit going through Basic at Fort Jackson in 1994 - afterwards I spent a combined 7 years in the Army as an Armor officer. After an adventurous career in business, I returned back here in 2010 to run a company called U.S. Patriot - serving military, law enforcement, public safety customers around the world. If you want to know more, let me know - but I'm a pretty boring guy except when I'm driving.

Let me put your fears at ease. I'm not some corporate guy looking to make massive changes and squeeze every last penny out of customers while providing less quality food. My intention is the exact opposite. What many of you already know is that I've been the majority owner for over the last 6 months already. In that time, we've added variety to the menu, reduced waiting times by at least half (we still have a little bit of work to do on Friday nights), added much needed seating and improved the atmosphere (plumbing, electrical, equipment, air conditioning, etc) One thing I heard early on from very vocal regulars (and you guys know who you are) was that this place is an institution in Blythewood - it's been a restaurant/bar for close to 20 years (Chubby's, McNulty's, Chuggers, San Jose, etc.), if not longer, through different ownership over the years but generations of residents of Blythewood call it home. I'm not gonna do anything to damage that. If anything, my plan is to build on it. Ask any of my team - some who have been through 3 or 4 owners now - none of them like all of the changes I've made but they like most of them and they know I listen to them and customers and I'm trying to do right by the place.

What many of you don't know is that I was a customer of this place first. My daughter is the pickiest eater I know and she wanted a smashburger one day and that's how I found Chubbys by accident She told me the burger wasn't horrible - which for her is a GLOWING recommendation. So I started coming here for her and started talking to Chris & Amy and learned that running a restaurant is brutal, stressful and exhausting. Given I was retired after a long and winding business career, I started giving them free advice about the business side of things. So in March of this year, I became involved as their business partner. My entire career, I've been called on to fix things, to make things better, to improve and that's what I've been trying to do and plan on doing in the future - at least with the things that need fixing - I hope to do so with Chubby's as well.

Many of you have commented that we've been a little silent lately. It's because I've been really busy with trying to open up our newest location in Columbia. I've heard over the past few months one comment come up over and over "You really should open a location in Columbia or Lexington, etc" Many of you complained that it's a bit of drive to get to Blythewood for your favorite burger. So, I am happy to announce that we will officially opening our new location in Columbia - tomorrow Saturday Aug 17th. We'll be open 7 days a week from 11am to 8pm. You'll actually see some familiar faces there - Hannah and Mallory - will be our front of the house. We are located at the corner of Forest Drive and Percival Road right off 77 - next door to Panera, Petco, Wingstop. You'll see most of your favorites from our menu - and for those that are wondering - we will be serving the item we always get questions about - the cheesesteaks will be served 7 days a week.

I hope you try out our new location and continue to come to our Blythewood location. And if you run into me at either of our restaurants and don't like any of the changes we make, feel free to let me have it. I won't take offense - I take the bad with the good and admittedly have made plenty of mistakes over the years.

Over the past six months we have worked closely with Paul to ensure a smooth transition, and we are confident Chubby’s is a great business and are comfortable entrusting Chubby’s to Paul who is dedicated to seeing Chubby’s continue offering its same great craft food to its customers and expanding the business. We have the utmost faith that Paul, who has enjoyed prior business success, will be able to continue what we began with a food truck in our driveway. Paul brings with him a wealth of business experience and practical knowledge that will hopefully take Chubby’s to the next level – starting with Chubby’s new location on Percival Road. We wish him the best of luck and thank all of our customers, employees, and Blythewood for the wonderful years we have shared. Blythewood, you have truly made us feel at home!

Today is our 4 YEAR ANNIVERSARY of opening the Food Truck! It’s been a crazy ride, that’s for sure! One minute sweating in a food trailer in the middle of summer, during a pandemic in my driveway to now a popular burger dive in Blythewood! You guys have always shown us nothing but love and support from the very beginning, and we couldn’t be more honored! Here’s to many more years of slinging you Columbia’s favorite smash burgers!
