Little update of

Dan is just about 2 months post show now and sitting at 179 up 18lbs from his stage weight which was 161.

I’m liking how he’s looking and how we are progressing so far. Nice slow and steady climb and keeping body fat low. The goal at this point is simple. Pack on as much muscle as possible. Notice I said MUSCLE, not weight. Scale weight doesn’t mean s**t if it’s not weight coming from lean fu***ng tissue. Quality>quantity. 💪🏻 let’s work!

Transformation of my client prep for his first show. On the left is the start of his prep and on the right is a stage shot from this past weekend at the Ruby Championship. Daniel is only 19 by years old and man is this kid driven. Daniel did everything I told him to do for 20 weeks and his hard work paid off. He took first in teen and middleweight by default due to no other competitors showing up for this classes. The judges were very impressed by not only his conditioning but they also commented on his exceptional posing for a teenager. Daniel has a bright future in this sport and I can’t wait to see him get better and better!

Thank you for trusting me to guide you through your very first prep. It was truly an honor brotha 🙏🏻 Now, time to grow!

A few reasons your calves won’t grow…

1. You don’t train them often enough….your calves get the most daily abuse than any other muscle in your body. You need to train them at least 2x a week preferably 3.

2. Not enough volume/too much weight….like I said above your calves get worked a lot daily just from walking. Go higher reps, 12+ reps, and don’t go insanely heavy. I see guys stacking plates on the seated calve raise and doing these bs half reps. Go all the way up and down and SQUEEZE the contraction hard! And also CONTROL THE NEGATIVE! I see these dude bouncing the weight up and down. That isn’t doing s**t. Stop.

3. Stretch your calves between sets. Most people have terrible ankle mobility which also typically means tight calves. Stretching them between sets will not only help improve mobility but will help tear down the tissue more. You cannot get this even with a full range eccentric as you need to maintain stability in the set. Stretching them between sets you can relax the muscle and get a big stretch cause isn’t micro tears in the muscle holding that dorsiflexed position.

Throw these changes into your calve training. Guarantee they’ll grow.

I have seen some ugly form in the gym over the years and man bench press is one that’s consistently scary to watch😖and I can tell you, when I first started lifting it wasn’t pretty either😂 Hopefully this brief little tutorial helps someone. 💪🏻

Patience….

It’s something few people have. Especially in our current day and age. Think about it….more things are instant/quick than ever before…

✅Hungry? Uber Eats right to your door
✅Need literally any product quick? Amazon Prime
✅Want to watch a specific movie? Stream it on the many apps that exist
✅Don’t feel like going grocery shopping? InstaCart!

….and the list goes on. You get the idea. The internet and technology have made it easier and quicker to get things done than ever before. The negative side of this is it has also made us a lazier society than ever before.

So, now when it comes transforming your body people want to immediately go to the fastest, easiest and quickest route just like they do with everything else in their lives. The problem with this is that there’s no shortcuts when it comes to achieving your dream body and even just losing 20lbs. And if you do starvation diets and other nonsense you will not keep it. It takes PATIENCE! There’s no fu**in short cuts! You have to put in the work. Period.

You can’t buy this. You can get the best personal trainer in the world and you still need to work hard, be consistent and practice new habits that will help you to not just achieve the look you want but also keep the look you want.

The pictures above are 8 years apart. Now this is obviously taking it to the extreme, 99% of people aren’t aiming to achieve this. But the point I’m making here is it took me a long time to get to this point. And I was relentless with it, didn’t miss meals, didn’t cheat, didn’t miss workouts or cardio sessions. You name it, I did it. I don’t expect the average person to have the mindset I have.

So…BE PATIENT! Change takes time! Especially lasting change. You are not only changing physically you are changing mentally and it takes time. And that’s ok, take your time and create lasting change. ❤️💪🏻

This is my online coaching client Joe. Joe came to me the beginning of this year. Overweight, unhappy, lacking confidence and ready to make a change in his life. He got covid literally a week after he got his plan. But he didn’t let that stop him. After recovering he went at it. During the time he was going through this journey he dealt with ALOT of adversity, I won’t go into detail, but a lot of people would’ve said well ya know what Dave I just have too much going on, I can’t do this right now. Which, he did have doubts, but I coached him through it and helped him navigate all the road blocks life threw at him. And look at him now! In 6 months he lost over 40 lbs and built muscle! Not only does he look better but his confidence is up, he feels better, had more energy and loves his new, healthy lifestyle. So not only has he lost the weight, he has learned how to keep it off!

The main thing I want everyone to take away from this is no matter what life throws at you there’s no excuse why you can’t stick to your goals. There’s always a way to navigate around anything life throws your way.

Little PSA for today…beginners listen up! Keep it simple! Instead of trying to do all these “fancy” exercises you see on social media stick to basic movements. Progress in those basic movements, master those movements. THEN maybe move to more isolated “fancy” movements.

You will….
1. See more progress quicker
2. Develop a super solid foundation you can build on as you progress in fitness
3. Develop mind to muscle connection. In other words learn how to engage and FEEL the muscle instead of just moving the weight.

These early stages of development are soooo important and you will thank yourself for giving yourself time to do the “boring stuff” years later.

Bodybuilding changed my life in more ways than just physically. Almost 9 years I’ve been doing this and I can’t even imagine myself being the person I used to be anymore. It’s so much more than muscle.

Here is my client Arantxa Nunez with an incredible transformation. This is 14 months of hard work but something I want to make a point of is there were a lot of times throughout this transformation that Arantxa made mistakes, had slip ups, whatever you want to call it BUT she never let it stop her. She was and still is always honest with me and we worked through those things and adjusted her program to work better for her in the areas she was struggling in. This is so important because everyone is different! What works for one client may not work for another and you have to find what works for YOU! People have different schedules, different likes and dislikes etc.

So now that we have reached her goal weight we will slowly work her calories back up to maintenance to restore any hormones or other markers that have possibly down regulated from being in a caloric deficit for so long and also to start to fill her in a bit and start bringing her in a good place to build muscle and feel better, more energy, and stronger!
