Have you ever returned to a place after a long time and realized that you have grown with it?

Mrs. Beth Gordon is a consistent friendly face on campus, but few people know that she used to be a student at Saint Andrew's.

As a student of the Class of 2007, Ms. Gordon was a member of the varsity tennis team and enjoyed U.S. history and English 9, which she remembers taking with Mrs. Friedman, now an Upper School college counselor.

Now 18 years later, Mrs. Gordon is the Upper School Assistant Dean of Students and Assistant Dean of Residential Life and lives on campus.

Saint Andrewโ€™s has a rich athletic history full of state championship wins such as tennis, swimming, golf, basketball, and lacrosse.

One of the most notable state championships this decade was in 2020 when the Boys' Varsity Basketball Team took home the state championship for the first time in Saint Andrewโ€™s basketball history against Andrew Jackson High School in Jacksonville.

SA equipped me academically and instilled within me the value of honor and balance, which have guided my path. Operating with honor has allowed me to take pride in all my work and has helped me discover my true passion for genetics. Along the way, prioritizing mind, body, and spirit has found me a balance that is often lost in the demands of college life and onward.

All of my teachers at Saint Andrew's positively impacted my life and taught me many things. Three lessons in particular stand out: always pursue your curiosity, maintain close relationships with your academic community, and reach out when you need help.

My favorite memory at Saint Andrew's was the 2018 Water Polo season, where we won the District Championships against our rivals, Boca High. It was a year when our team was very close, and we made memories and friendships that continue to stay strong to this day.

As seen in the May 2024 edition of the Bagpiper, Brielle Rebello '24 writes a letter to her fellow lifers.

"So, as college nears, Saint Andrewโ€™s lifers like myself will learn to adopt skills of adaptability and flexibility at the various colleges and universities we attend as the โ€œnew kids.โ€ While we value the comfort and familiarity of Saint Andrewโ€™s, we will need to welcome new experiences and take cautious risks.

Hopefully, we will be surrounded by students who have already been the โ€œnew kids,โ€ and who have already gained such experiences, so they can teach their skills of adaptability and social resilience to us. And in turn, we lifers, after having given most of our lives to one school, can teach them the meaning of loyalty, long-standing friendships, and a sense of community."
