Just a few weeks ago, these students started on a journey to obtain their Emergency Medical Responder. Today all of the students not only completed their course but they also passed their National Registry Practical Exam! We are so proud of our EMR Students!

Schedule is Monday-Friday, shifts beginning at 5 and 9 am.

***Mostly doing doctor's appointments, dialysis transports, as well as hospital discharges around Athens. There is a lot of free time for anyone in school, or with other activities you have while we gain more patient's.***

Job Description Below:

PURPOSE OF THE JOB: EMT- Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced

To render Basic Life Support (BLS), or Advanced Life Support (ALS) in some cases, and emergency medical techniques to those in need of assistance; to operate and maintain assigned ambulance and station; to participate in continuing education and training relative to medical and industry advancements.

WORK PERFORMED:

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

β€’ Render pre-hospital emergency care according to established medical protocols.
β€’ Perform triage and a variety of emergency medical treatments at the Basic or Advanced Life Support level.
β€’ Provide continuing care and treatment while en route to a facility; monitor and report changes in patient condition.
β€’ Under medical direction and following prescribed standing orders perform a variety of invasive and non-invasive therapies including but not limited to assessment and evaluation of the ill and injured, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and defibrillation, administration of drugs, agents and solutions, pulmonary ventilation, application of dressing and bandages, control of shock, and immobilization of fractures, and all other skills at which level EMT you are trained.
β€’ Drive the ambulance to non-emergency/emergency scenes, transport patients to appropriate facility.
β€’ Assist and coordinate with other emergency service agencies in rescue operations, motor vehicle accidents and other emergency situations.
β€’ Perform a variety of emergency medical treatment services at the basic and advanced life support levels.
β€’ Employ safe lifting and moving techniques.
β€’ Maintain ambulance vehicle, equipment, and station.
β€’ Act as a preceptor for EMS students.
β€’ Handle radio communications during emergency and non-emergency situations professionally.
β€’ Keep records and logs on daily activities, such as Patient Care Reports (ePCRs).
β€’ Perform related duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS (GENERAL):

β€’ Work is performed indoors and outdoors.
β€’ Physical effort involves – for indefinite periods of time – mobility within an office and field environment; subject to infectious diseases, toxic waste, chemical, dust/mites, fume, odor, explosive, electrical and mechanical hazards; exposure to extreme cold, heat, temperature swings, constant noise and heights; working in trenches; walking; twisting body; stooping; standing; squatting; sorting; sitting; seeing; running; pushing; pulling; lifting; dragging, and carrying a minimum of 150 pounds; climbing; crawling; reading; decision making; reaching above shoulder level; using both hands for simple and firm grasping; clarity of hearing; communicating clearly and effectively, in person and by two-way radio; fine finger manipulation for writing and typing on a personal computer; operation of Basic and Advanced Life Support equipment and light rescue tools; operation of an emergency vehicle through traffic.
β€’ Stress may be encountered when working at a rescue scene, unsuccessful attempts to rescue victims, and managing very critical patients.
β€’ Work schedule is typically 12 hour shifts a week from Monday through Saturday as scheduled and/or 24-hour shifts.
β€’ Employee will be required to respond to calls during all hours.
β€’ Applicant must be able to pass a drug test, background check, and have a clean driving record.

ABILITY TO:

β€’ Work a 12 hour shift
β€’ Learn the geography of local areas.
β€’ Think and act quickly in emergencies and judge situations and people accurately.
β€’ Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
β€’ Prepare concise and comprehensive written reports, while remaining within commonly accepted standards for grammar.
β€’ Work safely under hazardous conditions.
β€’ Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and defibrillation.
β€’ Correctly administer therapeutic drugs and solutions.
β€’ Maintain vehicle and equipment.
β€’ Be on call and available to work extended shifts when necessary.
β€’ Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
β€’ Respond to directions from supervising personnel.
β€’ Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-employees and those contacted in the course of work.
β€’ Maintain personal health and physical fitness to perform all job duties.
β€’ Respond to duty in the course of any man-made or natural disasters under the direction of EMS Director.
