Sometimes you just have to take a chance! If you want this egg basket you need to RUN, NOT WALK to Meridian Feed Mill to get some of my fibro mix and Rancho Green chicks! You will NOT be disappointed! 🌈🥚#rainboweggs #chickseason
Day 8. “The purpose of this glorious life is not simply to endure it, but to soar, stumble, and flourish as you learn to fall in love with its existence. We were born to live, my dear not merely exist”. ~Becca Lee. Seed Swap 2024 was so wildly fun this year because I did it with one of my Farm Besties, Michelle @chicoryranch !! 🌸🌻 We got them on the same day so we made a ‘date’ to grab them out of our mailboxes together! 🥰😂 So much fun and SO excited for this growing season!Happy Yellow Thursday, friends! Now go spread some joy! 💛💛💛#loveismyreligion #allweneedislove #lovealwayswins #28daysofhearts #february #monthoflove #inspire #intention #fulfill #hope #harmony #selflove #selfcare #makingconnections #yellowthursday #happyyellowthursday
🌸 It’s never too early to get a head start and these are 3 of the major things I’m doing in January to begin my prep for Spring. ✅ I want to be ready before it starts getting too crazy, things begin to sell out, and I can’t get what I need in a timely manner. 📝 Here is some more expanded information from my list! 1. You can take your seed inventory a step further and test germination in some of your seeds. 2. Everyone uses different methods and supplies for starting seeds. - Do you do soil blocks? Make sure you have enough coco coir for your mix; that’s what I always seem to run out of first and then it’s super hard to find! - Do you use empty milk jugs? Make sure your neighbors are saving them for you too! - What about your grow light bulbs? Test them to make sure they don’t need replaced! 3. Do you hatch or buy chicks? - Make sure you have enough brooding supplies like heat sources, food/waterers, bedding - Make sure they’re in good working orderWhat is on your January list? #lifeontherancho #hummingbirdrancho #januaryprep #todolists #urbanfarming #urbanfarm #urbanrancher #boiseurbanfarm #idahorancher #knowyourfarmer #growyourownfood #makingconnections #seedstarting #chickseason #springprep #highlandscows
GIFT TIP # 8. Wrapping It Up - think brown paper packages tied up with string but with a personalized twist! 🎁 You can take apart a brown paper sack and turn it inside out.🎁 Do you or the person you’re wrapping for love music? Use old sheet music to wrap your gift!🎁 You can use the comics from the newspaper, old calendars. Maybe a little special rubber stamp or sticker. 🎁 Know someone that sews? You can use a beautiful piece of fabric that can be re-used later!Last year I had a very odd shaped gift but it was rustic in nature so I used a burlap coffee sack and Jute to wrap it up and it turned out darling! The possibilities are endless! ❤️#gifttips #holidaygiftideas #uniquegifting #christmas #urbanfarm

GIFT TIP # 7 (one of my faves!) Containerizing - This is where you can get super creative and thrifty too! You can use anything as a container, including the gift itself. The coffee mug for example acts as a vessel that you can fill up with little goodies. You can use baskets or boxes which can be used later for storage, or what about a cute tote bag that could act as a reusable shopping or book bag! You could tie everything for a charcuterie board to the actual board itself! And remember the thrifting tip in my last post? I found these adorable little rooster plates at the thrift store and I’ve cleaned them up, added some appetizer picks with little chickens on them, a ball of handcrafted goat cheese with one of my mini flavored syrup toppings, included a hand-stamped chicken tea towel, placed it all into a basket that can be used later as an egg gathering basket, tied on a cute hand painted, wooden chicken ornament to the top and now I have a sweet gift for a fellow chicken lover that hits many of the gift tip marks I’ve listed the past few days; themed, thrifted, handmade, personalized, consumable, and even containerized in something reusable!✅👏🏻🙌🏻
GIFT TIP # 6. Themed Gift - Creating a themed gift makes pulling all the things together easy because you’re sticking within a specific category. One year for a white elephant gift I had this cool pottery bowl that held nesting chopsticks. I didn’t want to just give the bowl so I turned it into a ramen theme! I grabbed a case of ramen and found a ramen Tshirt and socks too. It was the favorite of all the gifts!🎁 Do you have someone who likes coffee mugs? You could include a mini package of specialty coffee, hot cocoa, or tea inside the mug, tie a cute, tiny spoon to the handle and you have now elevated the gift by adding an additional personal touch to it.🎁 Know someone who likes to cook or bake? Add seasoning salts to the skillet you’re getting them! You can add fancy finishing sugars, some beautiful rainbow chicken eggs or even specialty duck eggs along with the baking tool you’re gifting.🎁 You can level up any gift item by adding a little something extra and many of those things can be easily handmade using recipes that can be found on Pinterest! #gifttips #holidaygiftideas #handmadegifting #shopsmallfarms #shopsmallbusinesses #shoplocally #themedgifts #holidaygiftguide #urbanfarm #urbanrancher
GIFT TIP # 5. Thrifted/Repurposed - I know for some people the thought of giving something used as a gift is out of the question, but times have changed and I think it’s more common than it maybe once was. So how about giving something vintage or thrifted? Perhaps you know someone who collects antique salt & pepper shakers or old records? Maybe someone on your list loves pretty glass bottles and you found some in a box at an auction! Clean them up and put them in a cool wooden crate or with an old dressing tray. Maybe you know someone who loves to entertain. You could find a cute set of thrifted, seasonal dessert plates, tie them up with fancy ribbon, include a cute little cheese knife with some fancy hand-crafted cheese, small batch syrups or jams, a box of crackers and now you have a darling little hostess gift! Besides my Etsy shop you can also find some cute little handmade, thrifted and vintage items on my friend’s new page @chicoryranchvintage so go give her a follow! #holidaygiftideas #holidaygifting #shopsmallfarms #shopsmallboutiques #thriftmas #holidaythrifting #urbanfarm #gifttips #vintagegifts #uniquegiftideas
GIFT TIP # 4 Personal - Even if you give a practical gift, you can always add something personal to it to make it more meaningful. Are you giving a book as a gift? Always inscribe something inside the front cover. Did you snap a really great photo of someone on your list that they never saw, perhaps with someone special to them or maybe you both together? Print a copy and frame it for them! Give it by itself or even as an addition to a gift that technically didn’t cost anything to add! On the gift tag or card, don’t just sign your name, write a short, personal note. This shows you took time and out thought into what you’re giving them.#holidaygiftideas #shopsmallfarms #shopsmallbusinesses #shoplocalfarms #givesomethingpersonal #meaningfulgiftgiving #urbanfarm #boisesmallfarm
GIFT TIP # 3. Consumables - People these days are getting more practical. They want less clutter so buying them something they can use and be done with makes sense! This can be anything edible like Berryhill Bacon (DUH!)😂 breads, fruit or food baskets, or foods with a longer shelf-life like vinegars, syrups, jams or teas. Consumables are not always food but can include things you use often like soaps, lotions, or tinctures. This may not seem very special but when you couple this with yesterday’s tip and pick something handmade and unique and you wrap it in a beautiful way, it somehow turns what would be a seemingly boring bar of soap or bag of bacon into something very special. 🎁**You can find the bacon from this video @baconboise in downtown Boise, Idaho and online!#gifttips #holidaygiftideas #consumablegifts #urbanfarm #boiseurbanfarm #shoplocalfarms #buylocalfood
GIFT TIP # 2 Unique - This could be something that they wouldn’t be able to find at just any big box store. Something with pretty labels or unique packaging. Something with a unique flavor for example, you can buy vinegar anywhere and it wouldn’t be anything special, but what about a hand crafted fruit vinegar? This would make a lovely salad or a very unique addition to a glaze or buttercream frosting. Often some of these small batch and hand crafted items come with recipe or idea cards so people know how to use them!#shopsmallfarms #gifttips #holidaygiftideas #urbanfarm #boiseurbanfarm
GIFT TIP # 11. Handmade - One of the rules in our family is that at least one of the gifts, or some aspect of it must be handmade. To us, it has always made the gift a bit more meaningful and personal. It can be by you or if you’re not super creative or don’t have a lot of time or supplies, it can be made by someone else like a small business or local artisan. Look for events or indoor markets in your area that feature handmade items, which usually begin Black Friday weekend. If you’ve picked out a gift that isn’t handmade, then try to find a card, wrapping paper, gift bag, gift tag, or gift topper that is, but at least a component of the gift should be handmade. As I make my way through the next tips, I will provide plenty of ideas that may work for you!**find link to this product in bio**#gifttips #christmasideas #shopsmallfarms #uniquegiftideas #infusedvinegars #specialtyfoods #urbanfarm #farmtotablegifts
