On this day, we honor the lives lost on 9/11 and the strength, resilience, and unity that followed. As we reflect, we remember those still impacted by this day and offer our support to those who continue to carry its weight.

For , BHG Aiken's staff created a wall to recognize the individuals in our community who have battled with addiction. Each patient who lost a loved one, a close friend, or someone they knew participated in a creative expression group held by the counselors and decorated a butterfly in memory of the individual and placed it on the wall. This heartfelt activity reflects both the hurt and the hope within our community. Together, we honor these memories and support each other with unshakable strength and compassion. 💜🦋

As we approach International Overdose Awareness Day, Narcan (naloxone) is a critical tool in the fight against opioid overdose. Knowing how to properly administer it can make all the difference.

1) Recognize the signs of an opioid overdose: shallow breathing, extremely pale skin, faint or no heartbeat.

2) Call 911 immediately.

3) Administer Narcan by following the instructions provided on the packaging. If you're unsure it's an opioid overdose, Narcan is safe and could reverse a potential overdose.

4) Stay with the person until help arrives. If trained, perform CPR or follow the dispatcher's instructions carefully.

Prevention is key and could help save a life. If you or someone you know if struggling with opioid addiction, call 844-535-7291 or visit https://hubs.ly/Q02MKmRk0 to start the journey to real recovery. 💜

As we continue recognizing National Wellness Month, remember your recovery journey involves more than just treatment; embracing a healthy lifestyle is key to achieving your goals!

Here are some tips to help you stay on track:

🍎 Eat Nourishing Foods: A balanced diet with fruits, vegetables, and whole grains can boost your mood and energy levels.

🏃‍♂️ Exercise Regularly: Regular movement releases endorphins, reduces stress, and improves overall well-being. Whether it’s taking a walk outside, lifting weights, or playing a sport, the key to sticking with a routine is to enjoy it!

💤 Rest: Getting enough quality sleep will help you feel refreshed while helping your body and mind recover.

🧘 Practice Mindfulness: Meditation and deep breathing can reduce anxiety and improve mental clarity.

Naltrexone is the third FDA-approved medication used to treat opioid dependence. Unlike methadone and buprenorphine, naltrexone does not stop withdrawal symptoms but instead blocks the euphoric effects of opioids. This makes naltrexone a great option for someone who has already stopped opioid use and wants to avoid relapsing.

Ready to explore your treatment options? Our team at BHG is here to guide you every step of the way.

Learn more about how naltrexone can help in your recovery: https://hubs.li/Q02KJSC10

08/14/2024

Buprenorphine (often known by the brand name Suboxone) is another FDA-approved medication that plays a key part in BHG’s medication-assisted treatment (MAT) program. Like methadone, buprenorphine has opioid properties but does not produce euphoria. It has what's called a “ceiling” effect, meaning its effects do not increase with higher doses. Buprenorphine is most effective when combined with comprehensive treatment programs that include other support services offered at BHG, such as counseling and case management.

At BHG, our team is dedicated to helping you find the best combination of treatment options to set you up for a healthier life.

08/13/2024

Methadone is one of three FDA-approved medications we use at BHG to treat opioid addiction. Unlike other medications, methadone completely activates opioid receptors in the brain. This helps alleviate withdrawal symptoms and cravings without causing the euphoric highs associated with other opioids. Methadone is especially recommended for patients who are just starting out their journey and need a full replacement for opioids.

Understanding each medication helps us ensure every patient gets the right treatment for their unique path to recovery.

At Behavioral Health Group, we're dedicated to ensuring every individual receives the treatment that suits them best.
