Last year, 1,300 pairs of socks donated by Boise Phil patrons, musicians, and staff provided extra warmth to individuals in need. The tradition of our annual sock drive continues in 2023 with multiple ways to donate new socks of all types and for all ages:

- At Handel's Messiah on December 1st and 2nd (South Jr. High)
- At Holiday Pops on December 9th (Morrison Center)
- All through December at our offices (516 S 9th St, Boise)

Bring your new, unopened pairs of socks with you to the concert and look for the large, gift-wrapped box. Thanks for helping us reach our goal of 1,500 donated pairs this season!

MESSIAH PERFORMANCES THIS WEEKEND! (Friday & two on Saturday)

After rehearsal last evening, one of our orchestra musicians said, "We have some amazing soloists this year!"

"Messiah is a living, breathing work of music, and nothing is ever quite what you expect.

Listen to soprano soloist Elaine Daiber expand the word "fruit" to a swooping twelve note phrase. Will she add more notes to the swoop every performance? Whatever happens, we're here for it, because it's going to be stunning.

David Walton, our tenor soloist, delivers a cold and lyrical 'Thy Rebuke has Broken his Heart.' Messiah has such hard-hitting text, and for opera singers like David it is fantastic and dramatic material. He uses it to full advantage as he spins out phrase after heart-wrenching phrase.

One of our favorite decorations is Mezzo Soprano Courtney Fletcher's jagged and foreboding melisma in 'Refiner's Fire'. And we love the leaps she throws into "Good tidings of Zion," spooling out surprising ornaments while commanding us to "arise" and "shine."

Finally, bass Enrico Lagasca is going to knock everyone's socks off with his version of 'The Trumpet Shall Sound.' His beautiful voice so easily sinks down into the depths of the low register in unison with the bassoon. You're just going to have to hear it for yourself, because his interpretation is incredible.
