We've had some really awesome new historical fiction come in recently and I wanted to highlight some of them! First and foremost: the newest Alan Gratz book has been released, and we're the first school in the district to get a copy! HEROES is about two boys living in Hawaii when the attack on Pearl Harbor occurs. In the same era, THE LITTLE LIAR tells the heart-wrenching story of a young Greek boy who unwittingly dooms others during the Holocaust, then has to live with the guilt and repercussions as he moves to the United States as a young man. Bouncing back further in time, we have TEACH THE TORCHES TO BURN and GWEN & ART ARE NOT IN LOVE (LGBTQ remixes of Romeo/Juliet and King Arthur/Queen Guinevere, respectively), and TARNISH, about "wife #2" Anne Boleyn. And finally, THE PRINCE AND THE COYOTE is a stunning illustrated epic about Nezahualcoyotl, a brilliant prince in 1400s Mexico.
Library fun today!
Our mini book bauble workshops were a huge success! Twenty-six students spent their lunch making tiny books and putting them into decorative biblioterrariums :) Such a fun way to relax, create, and celebrate some of our favorite books. Should we do this again in January?
Chalice of the Gods
The original heroes from The Lightning Thief are reunited for their biggest challenge yet: getting Percy to college when the gods are standing in the way. THE CHALICE OF THE GODS just arrived at the North library - be the first to enjoy this hilarious update to the Olympians series!
Well, Pepsi, the consensus seems to be that your limited edition Peep-flavored Pepsi is… not awful. In fact, several tasters begged for multiple refills. On the other side of the aisle, critics felt that it tasted flat, had an odd smell, and was really just extra-sweet Pepsi. All in all, it seems to have been a win! Vikings, should we do this again sometime? What other weird flavors are out there?
Today was a big day for North IBOB as JUST QUIT NOW defeated Reading Rodeo, passed the 400-point mark, earned their 8th (!!!) acorn, and cemented their spot as North's top Battle of the Books team for the 22-23 season. Congratulations to Teddy, Grady, Ardin, and Kane on their decisive victory! North's second team will be determined next week after a playoff. :)
PLEASE SHARE! The North library currently has two small DonorsChoose projects to bring in some new books. Today only (Thursday, March 30), every dollar that is donated to one of those projects will be doubled! That means that if you donate $5, it will turn into $10. These donations are great tax deductions and have an immediate and tangible impact on our schools and students! Our GREAT BOOKS FOR GREAT KIDS project will provide a Baker's Dozen of great, high-quality, high-demand books including both fiction and nonfiction. $158 will fully fund it today! www.donorschoose.org/project/great-books-for-great-kids/7259175 Our MARVELOUS STORIES AND FANTASTIC QUESTS project will bring in another Baker's Dozen of books, all tied in to popular movies and shows that make these books super appealing to reluctant readers. Today, it would take only $132 to full fund this project. www.donorschoose.org/project/marvelous-stories-and-fantastic-quests/7259882
