🥧 Say a huge hello to Ron of Black Kettle Pies.
Ron’s journey with pies began when he was just thirteen, working in a bakery where he learned the art of baking. For years, he was immersed in freshly baked goods until life pulled him in a different direction at twenty. It wasn’t until years later that he found his way back to the kitchen, this time with a passion for Dutch oven cooking at fairs and special events.
About thirty years ago, Ron found himself at a bustling show in Portside, Arizona. There was a pie trailer that always had a line, a sign of something special. One day, that trailer was up for sale. Ron, recognizing an opportunity, spoke to the owner and bought it—not just for the trailer, but for the space it held, which was known for its reputation of serving mouthwatering pies. With that, Ron found himself back in the pie business, this time for good.
Before pies, Ron dabbled in BBQ, serving hungry snowbirds like himself who flocked to Arizona in the winter. But the call of the pie was too strong, and soon enough, pies became his signature. Today, Black Kettle Pies are a beloved fixture at the Boise Farmers Market.
When asked what his favorite pie is, Ron mentioned with a mischievous side smile, “Whichever one I’m eating at the time.”
Ron’s next mouthwatering creation will be his tomato pies - crafted with tomatoes grow in caldwell, three cheeses, onions, and fresh basil.
Keep an eye out for these delicious tomato pies and be sure to stop by Ron’s booth at the market. We’re sure you’ll find a pie or cheesecake of your liking!

Ever wondered why farm fresh eggs seem to just hit different? They taste better, the yolk is more vibrant, and they even seem to last longer. It’s not just in your head, we promise!
Let’s crack open some eggs facts:
🐓 Farm Fresh Eggs: These beauties are typically sold within a day or two of being laid. Fresher eggs = richer flavor, vibrant yolks, and a taste that’s hard to beat! Plus, minimal travel means minimal handling. Not to mention the nutrient-rich yolks farm fresh eggs pack.
🚚 Store Bought Eggs: Usually, they’re on a cross-country journey from large-scale farms to distribution centers and then stores, taking several weeks to land in your cart. That extra time can mean less flavor and fewer nutrients.
So, which will you choose?
If you said “farm fresh,” we’re with you.
Here’s where you can find farm fresh eggs at the Market:
🥚
🥚
🥚
🥚
🥚
🥚
🥚
🥚
🥚 Malheur River Meats
🥚
Keep in mind that eggs often sell out quickly. The above vendors may not be at the Market every Saturday, or may be in the Drive Thru only. Be sure to check the website before you go!
We’ll see you tomorrow at the Market!
It’s time to dig into another fun activity for the kiddos!
This Saturday, Ada Soil & Water Conservation District will be hosting our Sprouts Kids Club activity for a second weekend in a row! Sprouts Kids can come make their very own soil paint work of art! 🎨
Ancient civilizations harnessed the variety of colors in soil to create great works of art. Concentrations of different minerals in soil contribute different colors which were used anciently to make paint, and our Sprouts Kids will be putting all of this into practice at the Market!
