What is Frozen Shoulder

Frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, is a condition that restricts mobility in the affected arm. A healthy shoulder joint has a greater range of motion than any other joint in the human body. In this condition, the capsule around the shoulder joint becomes inflamed, scarred, thickened, or contracted, forming scar tissue and causing stiffness in the shoulder joint.

Healing Achilles Tendinopathy: A Marathon, Not a Sprint - STARS Physical Therapy 02/23/2024

You know the saying “no pain, no gain”? When it comes to Achilles tendinopathy, this phrase could be amended to “more gain, no pain.” The more strength you gain through the special exercise protocol we use for this condition, the less discomfort you’ll feel. It can be discouraging to hear that you’ll need 10 to 12 weeks of therapy before seeing results, but experience has taught us that, unfortunately, treatment for Achilles tendinopathy takes a while to pay off. Understanding what lies ahead is a good way to mentally and physically prepare yourself for Achilles tendon physiotherapy.

Rotator cuff tears, a common injury, send as many as 2 million Americans to their physicians’ offices every year. While many cases can be treated with conservative measures, such as physical therapy, others require rotator cuff repair surgery. One factor affecting surgery outcome is the presence of fat in place of muscle, a condition that often makes surgery less successful. Even if that is the case, however, a good rehabilitation regimen can help maximize your recovery

Cold weather and the holiday bustle make the opportunity to exercise difficult, if not impossible. According to an article by In Motion, a publication of the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, even just minimal exercise can make a big impact!

Exercise is perhaps the closest thing to a ‘Miracle Drug’ in existence. The benefits of exercise are numerous and include easing depression, lessening heart disease and cancer risk, and even lowering risk of infection. Especially important is the effect of exercise on weight loss and regulation of blood sugar. Obesity and diabetes are perhaps the two leading health threats to Americans with prevalence rates of both conditions skyrocketing. Thankfully, even small bouts of exercise can keep pounds off and greatly lessen the risk of diabetes.

Get moving - your life depends on it!

Saint Alphonsus Rehabilitation Services (STARS) would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
