Quin Murphy Foundation
Andrew "Quin" Murphy died unexpectedly on January 27th, 2010 of a treatable but misdiagnosed illness.
We, as family and friends, are committed to keeping our hopes and dreams alive for Quin by means of our nonprofit. We want to inspire people to live their lives with love, compassion, and purpose. Our goal is to raise awareness and elevate the importance of compassion and critical thinking in the healthcare field and empower others to advocate for their right to quality care.

Happy Birthday Andrew Quinlan Murphy. You would have been 31 today. We miss you.
Thank you Jonathan Eppert and family for standing in for the Murphys. Jonathan, former Quin Scholarship winner and Hilltop High School Valedictorian went back to his (and Quin’s) Alma mater to present a Quin Murphy Foundation scholarship to Hemangini!
Check out our Chula Vista High School Quin Murphy Scholarship winners, Angelica Barron and Paulina Quezada! Angelica is a dancer and artist who helped beautify the campus with her art. She will be studying biology at UC Santa Barbara. Paulina is a gifted soccer player and plans on studying nursing at SDSU.
Everardo Diaz De Leon, a standout student-athlete from University City High School, is our next recipient for the Quin Murphy scholarship. Everardo is a straight A student who demonstrates academic excellence in the classroom and leadership on the field. He is the team captain of his high school soccer team. He will pursue his higher education at Western Texas College, with aspirations to transfer to a Division 1 university for soccer. We have no doubt that Everardo’s talent and determination will pave the way for him to excel both on and off the field, as he sets his sights on a future in professional soccer. Cheers to Everardo’s bright future ahead!
We could not be prouder of our next Quin Murphy scholarship winner, Chapman Weber. He wrote in his essay, “In baseball you fail more often than you succeed, but when you succeed three times out of ten, you are considered very good. So when I fail outside of baseball, I don’t sulk in defeat, I take a deep breath and ask myself, how do I bounce back?” He is a brilliant example of growth mindset, the belief that your abilities can be improved through effort and persisting through failure. That is why Chapman, with a 4.1 GPA, MVP and Pitcher of the Year, will be going to UCSD to play for the Tritons! Quin would have been your biggest fan!
We would like to present to you our next Quin Murphy Scholarship recipient, Joshua Martinez Gomez, who attends Sweetwater High School, is the ASB President, and Men’s Varsity Golf Most Valuable Player. Besides his impressive 4.3 GPA, what stands out about Joshua is how his teachers as far back as middle school speak about him. He is memorable for his character, work ethic and solution oriented attitude. This is probably why he was awarded The Red Devil Way- a prestigious honor awarded for demonstrating proper model citizenship on campus.
Hemangini Kulshreshtha graduated from Quin’s alma-mater, Hilltop High School, with a 4.0 GPA. She plans on attending UC Riverside. Reading her application made our hearts swell with admiration. Her perseverance and tenacity through incredibly challenging situations would make you proud of the youth of today. We hope you have a chance to hear her story first hand.
Mariana Barr, is a scholar-athlete at Eastlake High School with a 4.43 GPA and captain for the Eastlake mountain bike team. On a state policy level, Mariana is one of seven teen ambassadors for the California Mountain Biking Coalition. She plans on studying engineering at Scripps College and merge her academic and tech interests with her passion for biking. The Quin Murphy Foundation is proud of all your accomplishments!
We would like to introduce you to our first Quin Murphy Scholarship winner! Ivanna Munoz, a scholar-athlete from Otay Ranch High School. Her tag line is a “future doctor.” She will attend UCSD and study medical science. She has volunteered hundreds of hours at an orphanage, interned at the Cleveland Clinic and worked as a lifeguard, all while maintaining a 4.17 GPA! The future looks bright!
