Here's a t-shirt design for www.diaeveryday.com to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. It's your Little Green Battle Buddy!
Just a quick little raccoon character to keep my logo design skills sharp. Need a logo? Let's talk!
From a project I was working on for a client. The devil wants you to vote, and he doesn't care what party. Is there another option?
I still believe in that dream! And together with my wife, we are ensuring that the message is taught to our daughters! Love everyone!
I know Pantone always chooses a color of the year, and for 2023 they chose Viva Magenta (BE3455). It's a great color, don't get me wrong, but I'm looking for a lot more color and saturation in my life this year, so here are my three colors of the year:
Maximum Yellow DCFF32 - It's a vibrant yellow, which reflects the enthusiasm I have for my work, family, and the potential I see this year.
Awesome Red FF2943 - My intense red, highly saturated, and confident.
French Violet 7714BE - This is the grounding color of my business and a cool but still bright foundation, the color of magic and possibilities.
Color plays a massive role in our everyday psychology, and by focusing on these colors for the year and their psychological associations as well as personal meaning to me, I'll be manifesting these values and characteristics in my personal and professional life.
What are your colors for 2023 and what do they say about you?
One of my clients, a great friend, and USMC veteran, tasked me with developing a design for his apparel company DIA. He wanted to recognize greatness and highlight the actions of a veteran performing great things. The story of John Chapman came to mind. If you don't know who he is, look up his story and watch the actual drone footage of his Medal of Honor-winning battle in Afghanistan. It's truly humbling and inspiring.
I came up with a mixed typographic design, Make Three Zero Charlie which was Chapman's call sign during Operation Anaconda. His ferocious fight to the death to protect his brothers in arms ultimately cost him his life, and I wanted my design to reflect his experience as best I could. The mountain he died on, Takur Ghar, was thigh deep in snow so I wanted to show the powder chaos of having to fight in that frigid condition. After AC130 bombardments, grenades, machinegun fire, and even hand-to-hand combat, I wanted to show the shattered state his body was in. I applied these concepts to the typography in the design and overlayed a red silhouette to represent the blood he shed in defense of his country's ideals and his comrades.

Subsequently, Lori Chapman Longfritz, the sister of John Chapman and author of the book "Alone at Dawn" loves the design and the purpose for which it was created, which as a designer, brings a smile to my face. 2022 was an excellent year for Farsight, and I couldn't be more thankful for the amazing people and fantastic clients I began working with last year. Now that 2023 is here, I wanted to pick a word of the year that embodied my professional and personal goals for 2023.
The best word that embodies my mindset going into 2023 is "Forward." In 2022, I was just getting started and beginning to find my pace as a small business owner. Now that I am fully in it, it's time to move forward. Keep pushing in the positive direction I want to see my company, skills, and personal life grow.
I look forward to sharing more with you this year and would love to hear what word you have chosen for 2023!
Social media is not going anywhere and it's no secret that if you aren't on social media as a business, you aren't being seen by nearly as many potential customers or clients. It's essential to have the right social media mix, show up in people's feeds as consistently as possible, and provide relevant content to your consumers. All of that takes time and as a small business owner, you may not have much of that left to go around at the end of the day.
If you are struggling to do everything and manage your social media content, let me take that off your plate. What a lot of people don't realize is that the cost of hiring a social media manager is offset by the time it buys back for you and the increased sales and clients you receive from the content they create.
Let's talk if you think you could benefit from hiring a social media manager! Contact me at [email protected] or send me a message on social!
Don't listen to the naysayers telling you your dreams are unrealistic or impractical. It's up to you to make your dreams a reality and let them wonder how you ever made your success happen.
Happy Earth Day 2022!!
Inspired by my 8-year-old who is supercharged for saving our planet by being more responsible, I thought I would post in her honor. Recycle, check. Compost, check. Take shorter showers, check. Turn off the car instead of idling, check. Still litters in my car, check. At least it isn't on the side of the road. Be kind to the earth today!
THE LIBERATOR ARCHETYPE
The Liberator Archetype belongs to the Hero family and as a result, Liberators are action oriented. Whereas the Activist is the voice of change, the Liberator acts as the agent of change by providing the action behind the voice.
Liberators' primary goal is to free people from bo***ge, whether it is from other peoples, situations or mindsets. They have a strong sense of right vs. wrong and are often idealists with a purposeful vision they are driving toward.
The color palette for the Liberator is Bright colors of Red, Yellow and Blues as well as Black and White, which is how they see the world. Like their persona, their color schemes are bold and bright like the future they wish to create through their actions.
While Liberators' goal is to free people, nations etc. from oppression, they are also charismatic and compassionate. Bold serif fonts like Unit Slab and simple, yet structured serifs like Trevor are great for paragraph typography.
Some notable Liberator brands and personalities of the past and present include Abraham Lincoln, Simon Bolivar, Joan of Arc, and Moses of the Bible.

THE LOVER ARCHETYPE
The lover archetype's primary purpose is to create a sense of closeness and intimacy to their subjects. To love and be loved is their goal and they are adept at forging close relationships. The lover also represents beauty to the eye of the beholder, pleasure, sensuality and sexuality as well. The lover archetype is the family head because its primal essence forms the basis of all of its related archetypes.
The color palette of the Lover Archetype is generally evocative of Valentine's Day with colors ranging from blush, pink, magenta, and deep passionate reds. The palette should invoke passion and intimacy.
Chaparral Pro is a great serif font for display as the curves are elegant without feeling too gaudy, but also visible from greater distances. Script fonts like Lamar Pen work well with Lover Archetypes as the type gives the sense of a passionate letter between lovers.
Brands and people that exude the Lover Archetype are Marilyn Monroe, Victoria's Secret, almost any perfume brand, Godiva Chocolates, Gucci, Chanel, Taylor Swift and Adam Levine.

THE ACTIVIST ARCHETYPE
The Activist is associated with the Rebel Archetype family because of its innate and intense desire to disrupt old paradigms and overthrow hierarchies. The Activist has a supreme sense of justice and thrives on activated the masses for causes greater than themselves. Their primary goals are to affect social, environmental, economic, or political change by any means necessary. The Activist is outgoing, communicative, evocative, and motivating all at once.
The color palette for the Activist represents their fight for common causes. Black always tends to be in the background as they bring their cause into the light. Red generally represents the blood sacrifice. You will often see shades of gray and white in their imagery and symbols and green and pink generally associate with the activist for their environmental and gender equality causes.
Anton is a great font for its bold, hard and firm look and Roboto's geometry offsets but maintains the focus on the primary message presented by Anton.
Examples of active brands and people are Martin Luther King Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, The Women's Suffrage Movement during WWI, Black Lives Matter and Greenpeace to name a few.

Honor the memory of a great man today who fought for a great cause that ultimately cost him his life. Keep his memory alive!
THE VISIONARY ARCHETYPE
The Visionary belongs to the creator family and as such, can see into the future with their exceptional foresight to conceive of ideas and products that benefit all of civilization. Often seeing what things or situations can be rather than what they are, these creative types can shape the outcome of the future through their bold imaginations. They are data-driven personalities that merge their imaginative right-brain with their analytical left-brain to synthesize information that fuels their vision. Because their inventions and ideas transcend civilization and societies they are often considered to be compassionate, thoughtful and reasonable personalities.
Their color palette reflects their optimism and bright vision of the future as they lead humankind to a brighter world. Light Gold reflects their bright attitudes, Day Sky and Windows Blues represent their high ideals in the clouds where they perceive what we can be. Vanilla is an earthier tone that helps them stay grounded so they do not lose track of the data that drives their ideas.
Futura is a great font pairing for this archetype because its cheerful boldness reflects the personality of the visionary. We really like a serif font-pairing with Futura and like Addington, a friendlier cousin to the much more recognized Times New Roman we used in college.
Some notable visionaries of the past and present include Leonardo da Vinci, Archimedes, The Wright Brothers, Steve Jobs, and Elon Musk.

As discussed in a previous post, Carl Jung popularized the concepts of archetypes that appeal and attract us by drawing on our collective unconscious by utilizing universal symbols.
What that means for your brand, whether personal or for your business is that in order to maximize your brand’s effectiveness, you need to establish its personality as an archetype, a recognizable symbol that transcends time and culture.
Jung outlined what he believed to be the primary 12 archetypes. They were the outlaw, hero, magician, lover, everyman, caregiver, sage, jester, ruler, creator, innocent, and explorer. For the sake of simplicity in branding these 12 archetypes work wonderfully as a template to establish your brand. However, an archetype is a common symbol, and there are many more than 12.
That’s why will be examining these 12 archetypes as archetype families with sub archetypes that represent more specific concepts that we believe better represent the complexities of modern brand personalities.
Tune in as we examine each of the families and their sub-archetypes so to speak. And if you want to learn more about our process, get in touch!
The way you tell your brand story is as important as the personality of the brand itself. In 1949, Joseph Campbell popularized the Hero’s Journey in his seminal work “A Hero with a Thousand Faces.” The operating concept was that historical myths through the ages all seemed to invoke subconscious synchronicity with people through time by invoking archetypes into a story-telling pattern. In Campbell’s original model, he outlined 17 phases through 3 main acts of a story. Check out the chart we present here. It’s a simplified version with 12 stages for you to determine where your brand is along it’s own journey.
And if you haven’t yet begun the journey, contact us to see how we can help you along the path as your mentor from Stage 4. We would love to be a part of your brand’s journey!
Who is Carl Jung and what the heck are archetypes? Why do they matter to me or my business? I’m sure those are questions you’re asking yourself right now.
To be brief, Carl Jung was a Swiss psychologist who pioneered the study of analytical psychology. Jung popularized the concept of the collective unconscious – aspects of unconsciousness experienced by all people in different cultures. He argued that the collective unconscious had a profound influence on the lives of individuals, who lived out its symbols and clothed them in meaning through their experiences
These universal and primal symbols and images he called archetypes. They were underlying base forms of collective knowledge accumulated throughout history to produce a type of universal
understanding of concepts such as the mother, the warrior, the ruler, tree of life, and the great flood to name but a few.
So now that this post is anything but brief, what’s this mean to your brand? Well, everything! Your brand is a snapshot of the values, culture, goals and meaning that comprise the personality of your product, business or public persona. As such, in order to tap into the unconscious knowledge of your customers or constituents, you need to appeal to their unconscious collective mind by adopting a representative archetype from which you can better communicate your brand.
If I still have your attention, tune in to future posts to better understand and explore archetypes and how they can propel your brand forward, whether it’s your personal brand or your business.

This was me all the way! My childhood dream was to become an artist when I "grew up." I never pursued that dream because I feared that by failing, I was somehow failing my identity. Instead I slogged on for years doing things I sometimes enjoyed and other things I really did not, but never something I "loved."
Then COVID-19 came and made a decision for me and I was left facing down my future...and my identity. Fortunately, I have an amazing wife who encouraged me to pursue what makes me happy despite my misgivings and her courage inspired me to take the leap!
If you know what makes you happy, go after it! If you don't, go find it! But also be sure you have an amazing person in your corner!
WOW! 😲 2020 was a crazy year for everyone. For me, I'm grateful no one we knew or loved became seriously ill with COVID, but the impact of the virus was still felt. As many of you know I lost my job with Marriott after 10 years with the company. At first, it was difficult to accept. However, it gave me the opportunity to reassess my life and choose to do what I have always loved all along.
For years, I have picked up freelance side projects as a graphic designer. Finally, with the encouragement of my amazing wife, I have decided to make this endeavor my full-time career. As a result I have opened a new boutique branding and marketing agency for start-ups and small/medium businesses. For me, there is something magical in helping someone else's ideas become a reality and it's even better when it isn't a mega corporation.
