Liberty Lake Day Camp

This past Tuesday, Andy spent the morning with Congressman (soon to be Senator) Andy Kim, along with some inspiring youth development professionals representing public schools, after-school programs, boys clubs, YMCAs, colleges, and food scarcity- unfortunately, a big issue with too many families. They discussed the significant challenges they are all seeing with today's youth, and ways that the federal government could potentially help.
Congressman Kim, is a down-to-earth guy, with two elementary school age kids himself. He and his staff are committed to supporting today's youth- through their platform, and future legislation.
They discussed possibilities of more accessibility for Summer Camps- as while 26 million American kids are fortunate enough to have some sort of Summer Camp experience, there's another 26 million whose families wish they could as well. In our area, where the demand of camps far exceeds the supply, where non-profit camps can even be financially out of reach for middle class families- maybe our government can help fund some camps like schools, so that the camp experience can become available for all children...🤞

We are happy to share that Liberty Lakers with additional needs are eligible for the Betsy Smith Inclusive Summer Camp scholarship, which provides financial assistance to parents of children with disabilities, enabling them to participate in inclusive summer camps.

Scholarship Details:

Eligibility: Children with disabilities entering K-10th grade who have been approved as campers at an inclusive summer camp for the summer of 2025.

Scholarship Benefits: The scholarship can be used directly for camp tuition.

Deadline: The deadline for scholarship applications is September 30, 2024.

Selection Process: To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must first be approved as campers and pay the camp deposit. Scholarships will be awarded based on family financial need, as determined through the scholarship application. Please note that due to limited funds, not all campers with need may receive scholarships.

Due to the liquid sunshine report for this week (relatively steady from tonight through the weekend) we are sadly cancelling Family Night. We will be Emailing families further details, particularly in regard to the performances of OLIVER!, and the 5-10-15 year ceremonies. We are sorry to do this, but with the weather, mixed with the logistics of catering, facilities, activities, etc- we have to err on the side of caution, and focus on optimizing the camp days for the campers with us this week.
