Fundraising for THE GENESIS FOUNDATION FOR CHILDREN 12/21/2021

Hi Everyone! This Holiday season, I am raising funds for a charitable organization, I am passionate about The Genesis Foundation for Children. This organization provides funding for clinical, informational, and therapeutic programs for children born with physical and intellectual challenges and genetic disorders. This group is often overlooked due to the rarity of their diseases and similar to most charities was heavily affected by Covid.

If you can please consider making a donation in any capacity you can, even a few dollars makes a huge difference and can help me reach my end-of-year goal for helping this wonderful group.

Good Morning Everyone! Today is Election Day; for those that know me, they know how much I love today. We are truly blessed to live in a place where we have the ability for self-determination, and it is our responsibility to use this tremendous power. There are many great candidates today who gave so much of themselves to reach today, sacrificing time with family and friends to provide you with an option. Please respect their sacrifice and make it to the polls today. Thank a poll worker, fill in that bubble and get yourself an I voted sticker! 🗳

The City of Boston is the only home I have ever known, and I am incredibly grateful to my community, who taught me the importance of service to others, civic engagement, and faith in a brighter tomorrow for all of us. It is these values that shaped our campaign for City Council, and, though we came up short of the general, it is these same values will continue to drive our City forward.

Running for City Council has been a lifelong dream of mine, and I was honored to do so alongside the largest, most historically diverse class of candidates that the City of Boston has ever seen. I am proud to have run a campaign that was a testament to my family, teachers, and community leaders - those whose investment in our City meant that a kid from Hyde Park could get an education, work at City Hall, and run for office to expand access to affordable housing, public transit, and City services for all.

I am grateful to our City-wide coalition of volunteers and supporters for believing in our vision. I am grateful to my fellow candidates for the ideas and passion that they brought to our many, many forums and neighborhood meetings and zoom conversations. Congratulations to those who are moving on to the Top 8 - you have made Boston incredibly proud of what you have achieved, and I look forward to working alongside you to advocate for fair housing, reliable transit, and an affordable City that works for all.

Thanks to all the Elected Officials, Ward Committees, and Unions who endorsed this campaign:

Today is Election Day. This has been an incredible process to go through since I first declared my candidacy in March. There have been many learning moments this campaign- Ups and Downs- things I wish I did different but also things that have broke my way unexpectedly.

Thank you to my parents Matt and Janet for their love and support without them this wouldn’t have been possible and to my friends and family who have helped me along the way. This has been a life changing experience and one I wouldn’t trade away for anything in the world.

I kindly ask you one more time to consider me with one of your four At-Large City Council Votes. I am number 12 on the ballot.

Let’s Win This Thing. Let’s Go!

Spent this morning in reflection at an early morning 9/11 memorial Mass at St. Cecilia’s. Father John Unni who serves as the Chaplin to Boston Fire and has been a friend of my family since his NU days, did an incredible job leading today’s service and recognizing the leaders of our own First Responders & Bostonians. Couldn’t have asked for a better way to start this beautiful Sunday 🙏🏻

A loss for Boston school sports: Major support program shutters - The Boston Globe 09/12/2021

The heartbreaking state of BPS’ sports programs is on the front page of The Boston Globe today. High schools sports is a vital part of a wholistic education. Our district leadership needs to prioritize fixing this problem and do more to actively manage the myriad outside funders willing to help. All kids in Boston deserve to have these opportunities available in our Public Schools.

A loss for Boston school sports: Major support program shutters - The Boston Globe The Scholar Athletes foundation spent more than $25 million on direct services to BPS student-athletes before it shut down, creating a void as a new academic year approaches and deficiencies persist in Boston school sports.

It makes me proud that our campaign is still earning new endorsements from elected officials, ward committees, and unions across Boston, many of whom are supporting different candidates for mayor. My background in housing and at City Hall has prepared me to be a City Councilor for all Bostonians! There are just 4 days left to the Preliminary Election on Sept 14!

🚨🚨🚨 ENDORSEMENT ALERT 🚨🚨🚨

Its the second endorsement alert of the day, and it is a big one! I’m honored to earn the support of Vote Ed Coppinger for State Representative. Over the years, Ed has been a community leader who delivers for Southwest Boston, and he is a respected voice when it comes to helping build up our small business community. That’s knowledge that I’m going to lean on as we keep our small businesses open and thriving for years to come. The election is in just 5 days on September 14th - make sure to join Ed and cast 1 of your 4 votes for me!

🚨🚨🚨 ENDORSEMENT ALERT 🚨🚨🚨

I’m proud to be a labor candidate endorsed by the Building and Construction Trades Council of the Metropolitan District, because the labor fight is personal for my family. My grandfather was a union mason - one of the millions of working people, many of them immigrants, who built Boston to be a world-class City. Today’s working families deserve strong champions on the Boston City Council, and that’s exactly what I plan to be as Councilor At-Large.

Yesterday was Day 3 of early voting and our campaign was out city-wide. It is awesome to get a chance to spend a few minutes answering a voter’s questions, and then get a thumbs up when they come back out. I was out and talking to voters in Charlestown all afternoon. I ran into Councilor Campbell & my favorite BLS substitute Mr. Chardavoyne. In the evening, I went over to Mission Hill to talk to voters with one of the campaign’s hardest working supporters - Councilor Kenzie Bok. Looking forward to Thursday, when there are more neighborhood early voting sites open!

This weekend, thousands of voters came out early to cast their ballot in the Boston preliminary election. Thanks to our volunteers, Plumbers 12, and Councilor Kenzie Bok we had representation at all 10 voting places. While at the polls, I had the opportunity to talk about some of the most pressing needs in our City- more affordable housing, Mass & Cass, early education and a variety of other topics. Thank you to all those who spoke with me and said they would give me 1 of their 4 votes, it truly means the world to me to have your trust and support. There are 9 days left until the official Election Day, if you haven’t voted already I hope you consider me!

As a life-long resident of Boston who has never owned a car, I am VERY excited about the idea of free bus routes. So this week I took a ride on the Route 28 bus, which is FREE from August 29 - November 29, 2021. This is the first-of-its-kind experiment here in Boston to see how this approach works. The free bus route is expected to help riders save money, help passengers board faster, and hopefully speed travel times on a route that often runs behind schedule. I'm watching this experiment closely, and as a City Councilor I am going to push for more action to make our trains & buses faster and more reliable.

Great morning today in Roxbury with the residents of the MLK Towers. We talked affordable housing, transportation, sidewalks and supporting our elderly residents during this pandemic. Thankful for the conversations this morning or coffee with some familiar faces and great to meet some new supporters on .

After the coffee, I had a quick bite at Dudley Cafe in Roxbury’s Nubian Square where local businesses are thriving and the Nubian Favorite sandwich is delicious.

This weekend was jam-packed! Sunday’s Open Newbury Street was awesome. Continuing to support & experiment with this sort of innovative, community-oriented use of public space is essential for our City’s future. I’m looking forward to supporting initiatives like this as your next City Councilor!

At 12:45 PM I was at Fenway Civic Association and Fenway Community Development Corporation rally for the 55! I have been attending these since they started earlier this year, and it’s awesome to see more members of the community and candidates coming out!

After that it was off to Roxbury. I got a hot dog, had a great conversation about how my housing plan will help keep people in their homes, and ran into a few other candidates also out campaigning!

Next I went up to Boston Ward 4 Democratic Committee’s annual summer Ice Cream Social. I got a chance to speak not only abt my policy platform, but the work I did as Councilor Bok’s constituent service director helping W4 residents & businesses during the pandemic.

As Sept. 1 nears, the rush to find an apartment in Boston is as competitive as ever - The Boston Globe 08/30/2021

In my recently released housing plan, I go into how we know Boston is in a housing crisis, and one of the big housing crisis indicators is the very low vacancy rate. After a rise in vacancies and drop in rents in 2020, The Boston Globe now reports:

"Vacancies and rental prices have returned to pre-pandemic levels as academic institutions return to in-person learning this fall, making the upward swing particularly sharp in student-heavy neighborhoods such as Allston and Brighton."

I'm the only candidate running for At-Large City Council who built affordable housing for several years, and I have a plan to produce and preserve more housing in Boston. Check out my plan https://www.jonforboston.com/check-out-jons-housing-plan/ and please cast 1 of your 4 At-Large Votes for me on September 14!

I was proud to stand with the Fenway neighborhood in support of a more accessible and reliable MBTA. Thank you to the Fenway Civic Association and the involved residents who have been rallying and organizing for months to save their local bus line. You’re proof to every neighborhood fighting for better transit that speaking out makes a difference!
