In my latest class at we took a trip to for inspiration and we actually got to handle some of the pieces! It was a real treat. 😁 So here is my take on a Chinese pitcher. I think I’ll make a few more using different methods. This one is both coiled and pinched.
A lot of experimenting going on in this kiln load! 🤞🏻 I am testing some glaze combinations and also getting a feel for how to glaze fire earrings. Cant wait to see the results!
So excited to get some glaze on these wavy bowls soon! I’m currently testing some new glaze combinations. 🤞🏻
Exploring ceramic earrings! They’ll serve as glaze tests at the very least. 😂
This is a doorknob from my historical home that I’m trying out as a clay stamp! The white residue on the clay is cornstarch to help the doorknob release after taking the impression.
After flipping these draped bowls off their terracotta pot stands, I add a little coil of clay to the inside bottom just where the sides of the bowl start, as this is the weakest point and could crack during drying. I also smooth the rim with a chamois and wipe down the entire bowl with a finishing sponge. Lastly they will be stamped after a day or so of slow drying.
Luckily my mom is a gardener and has a bunch of extra terracotta pots lying around! They’re perfect for these draped bowl forms which will set up for a bit before I flip them and make some finishing touches.
