from our headquarters. We understand that it may be scary to come into the clinic during these unsure times. We want to ease this stress so you can receive evidence-based care in a safe environment.
Especially for those of you in Massachusetts waiting on “Non-essential” surgeries, we are an option to merge the gap in your overall care to allow for the best recovery possible. Going into any orthopedic surgery (no matter what joint) after an extended period of disuse often results in poorer outcomes. Seeking help from your local physical therapist prior to surgery during these unsure times will allow for the best recovery following surgery (whenever that is finally allowed to happen again).
Still unsure about coming into our clinic? We offer free video screenings to determine if you may benefit from coming into the clinic, as well as in-depth telehealth evaluation and treatments.
Whatever the way you receive your care, we want to make sure you are safe and healthy during these uncertain times.
If you live in the Allston/Brighton Area of Boston, reach out to us () to determine the best option for you to receive the care you deserve.
Ever been told you have flat feet? Or maybe you’ve been told that the only way you can correct your arches and foot pain is rigid orthotics. Though an orthotic may be a good option to support the arch, it’s not the only option for many individuals.
If you feel like you have flat feet that is limiting your function, check out this amazing post by . Take control of your foot pain and improve your stability.
If you have low arches that are causing you pain or impaired mobility, and live in the Brighton/Allston area of Boston, reach out to us () for a free screening to see if you would benefit from skilled physical therapy.
I know I can’t be the only one excited to get back out on the course! As all states start reopening courses across the country, many people will be enjoying the sun in a safe manner.
With this being said, many of us (myself included) have not adequately prepared for a usual round of golf. And with driving ranges closed, many of us will decide to hit the course without any major chance to practice. So how can we prevent injuries with a quick return to the sport?
Here are some tips to a safe return to golf:
1. Warm-up: this may come as a surprise to some, but an adequate warm up works wonders at not only preventing injuries, but may even add distance and control to our shots. Perform 5-10 minutes of an active warm-up (not static stretching) addressing full body movements. Focus on quarter/half swing motions and slow trunk rotations prior to teeing off. Reach out to us for specific activities that can prep your muscles for the movement required.
2. Bring adequate water: Dehydration puts the tissues in our body at increased risk of injury. Simply by drinking water throughout the round will help lower your risk of injury. And no, if it has an ABV listed it is not water in the sense of hydration.
3. Limit your strokes: this may sound obvious, but the more swings you take, the more risk of injury. As you head back to the course, consider playing 9-holes vs 18-holes until your body gets used to the activity again. If you are able to (depending on restrictions) hit the driving range a few times prior to hitting the course. This gives you the ability to limit the shots you take and improve your golf mechanics.
4. Speak with a golf pro about your golf swing: Especially if you are new to golf, your local golf pro is your best resource to improving your golf swing and subsequently decreasing golf-related injuries. Ask about lessons/upcoming courses/webinars/etc.
Now with all of this, injuries can still happen. When they do, reach out to your local physical therapist to get you back to the course in a safe/progressive manner. If you live in the Brighton/Allston area, reach out to us at our location for more information on return to golf and warm-up tips!
