For the past thirty-five years, Mel Stiller has been leading this unique piano bar experience every Friday night. What sets it apart is the distribution of books containing lyrics to over 500 oldies, rock songs from the ‘50s, ‘60s, and ‘70s, as well as numerous standards and show tunes. Patrons of all ages gather from 8:00-10:00 to eat, drink, and collectively sing, fostering a sense of community. The intimate proximity of the piano to the patrons, coupled with Mel’s engaging interaction with the crowd, adds to the venue’s distinct charm. On February 23, Democracy Brewing will mark the piano bar’s 35th anniversary with a fundraiser for the Joslin Diabetes Center. All piano tips received that night will be donated to Joslin. We extend a warm invitation for you to join this event. In case you cannot make it on Friday, Democracy will continue to host the piano bar on March 1 and every other Friday thereafter. Many describe the Friday night sing-along as more than a piano bar; it is an experience. Featured twice on Chronicle and recommended in Zagat’s and Fodor’s, it has become a beloved way for many to spend their Friday nights in Boston.
