We are so delighted to share that CareWays Collaborative has been selected to benefit from Star Market’s GIVE BACK WHERE IT COUNTS Reusable Bag Program, which makes it easy for shoppers to contribute to their local communities. For the month of July, whenever a $3.00 GIVE BACK WHERE IT COUNTS Reusable Bag is purchased at the Star Market located at 90 Causeway Street, Boston, $1 will be donated to CareWays. This is a great way to broaden awareness and help our cause. The Star Market GIVE BACK WHERE IT COUNTS Reusable Bag Program, which launched in March 2019, is a reusable bag program that facilitates community support with the goal to make a difference in the communities where shoppers live and work. Let’s get started! Share the news with friends and family. Call, send emails, and post on social media. The more people who purchase the GIVE BACK WHERE IT COUNTS Reusable Bag in July, the greater the donation we will receive!

Day Three 🤍
“Day 2 was a blur-
teaching , teaching, and more teaching as our goal this year with Careways Collaborative is to find ways through education and culture change to lower pediatric mortality
The leadership at this largest public children's hospital completely buys in and we still performed 2 big airway surgeries and taught an incredible local team. I want to give thanks to our own tireless team who just find every little way they can to make a parent or child feel better! “
- Dr. Hartnick -
Today we conducted our first ever telesimulatiom-based team training course co-taught by providers from the Bloom Hospital in San Salvador and providers in Boston. Participants included nurses, respiratory therapists and physicians, who responded to a series of simulated pediatric emergencies. They practiced important principles of crisis resource management needed to effectively and efficiently manage an emergency. Special thanks to Mark Peikin for his generous donation of the high fidelity manikin without which this course would not be possible. Kudos to the AMAZING course participants who worked so hard and displayed tremendous growth as a team today. We are so proud of you!
Greetings from La Casa del Nino in Cartagena Colombia, a simply wonderful public Children's Hospital caring for all the children in this region of Bolivar.
who’s ready for a long weekend?
Smiles and 👍 from Guadalupe! 🤍
Many thanks to Casey Brachvogel and the New England Ketamine family for their incredibly generous gift of $50,000 to fund our upcoming Colombia mission this fall (other trips planned this year to El Salvador, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic!). Casey worked with Dr Lina Bolanos while on staff at Mass Eye and Ear and this gift is in her honor and to help the children and parents in her home country. Thanks to Casey and his family and all that make all this possible! We are a global team working together.
A smile is worth a thousand words🤍
Happy Monday! 🤍
Amazon Prime Day 💫 👶🏻👧🏻 Our kiddos spend several days in the Intensive Care Unit after their surgery. This means long hours without their being able to move or play. In these situations, technology has become a wonderful tool to help support and distract children throughout their hospital stay. With allowing the children to watch movies and/or play video games, children can better cope with each step, especially through recovery. Let's take advantage of Amazon's Prime Day. If you are buying a new tablet, donate the old one to us! Thank you 😊
Happy 4th of July ✨
“What matters to you?”
This mattered to the local health care team and was what THEY asked for…
This week we performed our first EVER telesimulatiom-based team training exercise with members of the PICU team at the Bloom Hospital for Children in San Salvador. Using an internet connection, we were able to run the high-fidelity manikin in San Salvador from our desktop computer in Boston. After observing the team expertly respond to a toddler experiencing a life-threatening tension pneumothorax, the team reflected on the experience, zeroing in on how to improve communicate and designate important team roles earlier. With support from Dr. Guzman, chief of the PICU, participation in the event was robust, including pediatric residents, PICU fellows, and a respiratory therapist. The session would not have been possible without Dr. Elias Escalante, who expertly set up the manikin and teleconnection, served as translator, and partnered with us during the debriefing. We are already planning our next telesimulation-based team training session! Talk about team building!!!!

About Us
Operation Airway exists within Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary’s not-for-profit organization (501-C3), based in Boston, Massachusetts, to provide high quality and compassionate surgical and medical care pro-bono to needy children and teenagers around the world. Our aim to make life-changing airway reconstructive surgery and post-operative care available to all children who cannot breathe or speak on their own. We are a group of physicians from Mass. Eye and Ear and Mass General who carry out surgical procedures in the US and abroad to restore and rebuild children’s airways. We perform surgery on children who have tracheotomies due to vocal cord paralysis, subglottic stenosis, tracheal stenosis, as well as a host of congenital and acquired problems, aiming to free them of tracheotomy tubes and enable them to breathe, speak, and swallow on their own.
While on surgical mission trips abroad, we aim to educate physicians on surgical and medical care of these complex patients. This ensures that when our mission is complete, we leave knowing the local physicians are able to provide the same care independently.
