William Landay's next novel, "All That Is Mine I Carry With Me," will be published in March 2023. Previous novels include "Defending Jacob," "The Strangler," and "Mission Flats." His novels have won the Strand Magazine Critics Award for best crime novel, the Dagger Award for best debut, and been included on many best-of lists.
I'm excited for the upcoming release of ALL THAT IS MINE I CARRY WITH ME in paperback, with a great new cover. That long title doesn't make the book any heavier, I promise. You can pre-order it now if you like (links at my website) or walk into an actual bookstore — the kind with real human beings inside — and pick one up on 2.6.24.
Looking for some book recs? Bookreporter.com is having an end-of-year contest to win all 44 of their "Bets On" titles from 2023, including one that I kinda sorta recognize.
On this date in 1851, Herman Melville published the epic MOBY DICK in the United States — it had come out a month earlier in England. I always think of MOBY DICK as one of the archetypal Massachusetts novels, but I didn't know that the great white whale was based on a real whale called "Mocha Dick" that destroyed at least 20 whaling ships off the coast of Chile. In its day, Mocha Dick was a lot more famous than MOBY DICK, which was never a bestseller in Melville's lifetime. https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/real-life-whale-inspired-moby-dick-180965282/

11 Years after ‘Defending Jacob,’ Newton’s William Landay is back with a new Boston-set crime thriller - The Boston Globe Growing up in Brookline, Landay loved stories — but didn’t see novel-writing as a viable career path.
To help spread the word about my new book, I’ve been doing some guest-writing around the web (is “guest writing” a thing?). Here’s one piece, on why authenticity in crime novels is overrated. Thanks to Criminal Element for the invitation.

One more week until publication. Almost there!
I've just read something really exciting — the new book from William Landay, author of the great DEFENDING JACOB. It's called ALL THAT IS MINE I CARRY WITH ME, and it's powerful and original. It'll be published March 7, 2023. Hard to summarize, but it's about the sudden disappearance of a mother and its effect on a family. Suspicion falls naturally on her husband, a noted criminal defense attorney — but as much as homicide detectives investigate, they can't pin it on him. It turns father against children, children against one another . . . it's a suspenseful, riveting, and unforgettable story.Unlike any other crime novel I've read.
