GBFB was featured in The New York Times today highlighting that despite economic improvements for some, many American families are struggling to afford basic needs, highlighting both the positive and negative legacies of the recent economic period. While inflation is cooling and wage growth is outpacing price increases, challenges still remain for many of our neighbors. Here at GBFB we are experiencing a sustained demand of neighbors facing food insecurity due to high grocery costs.
“It’s extremely difficult for low-income residents to make ends meet,” Jonathan Tetrault, GBFB VP of Community Impact and Operations, said. “Hunger is no longer this emergency situation. It’s a daily, lived experience, day in and day out, that expenses don’t meet income.”
Our recent statewide study found that 1 in 3 people are experiencing food insecurity across Massachusetts. Every day, we work to fill the meal gap and provide healthy, nutritious foods for our neighbors in need.
