Free, easy-to-understand, hands-on K-12 engineering curriculum that stimulates the mind and inspires creativity and innovation. Bring engineering to life!
The TeachEngineering digital library provides FREE teacher-tested, standards-based engineering content for K-12 teachers to use in science and math classrooms. Engineering lessons connect real-world experiences with curricular content already taught in K-12 classrooms. Mapped to educational content standards, TeachEngineering's comprehensive curricula are hands-on, free, and relevant to children's daily lives.
Designing and building simple machines is essential to engineering!
⚒️ K-12 teachers heading can use free resources like this two-part TeachEngineering activity: Students have fun designing simple machines and learn that they can accomplish tasks in a complicated way — and make work easier!
Create your own Rube Goldberg machine: teachengineering.org/activities/view/cub_simp_machines_lesson05_activity1
Students act as structural engineers and learn about forces and load distributions as they follow the steps of the engineering design process!
🌉 Build a Bridge and Get Over It 🌉
With this hands-on TeachEngineering resource — ideal for 4th-6th graders — students experience engineering design, craft prototypes, and test prototype bridges to failure!
Even more so, students gain an understanding of some of the challenges faced by engineers whose designs must protect public safety, like the Golden Gate Bridge that thousands of people depend upon daily 🚗

One of our most popular resources, the TeachEngineering Design Process Hub helps educators accelerate integrating STEM concepts into the classroom to cultivate students' problem-solving skills.
K-12 STEM Educators: Looking for ways to boost STEM literacy? Check out TeachEngineering's Engineering Design Process Hub!
🧠 This resource emphasizes: open-ended problem solving, encourages students to learn from failure, and teaches them how to create innovative solutions to challenges in any subject by introducing them to the methods engineers use to problem solve:
1. Ask: Identify the problem and constraints.
2. Research: Gather information and explore existing solutions.
3. Imagine: Brainstorm and develop potential solutions.
4. Plan: Select the most promising solution and plan its implementation.
5. Create: Build a prototype or model of the solution.
6. Test and Evaluate: Assess the prototype, gather feedback, and make improvements.
7. Improve: Refine the design based on evaluation results and retest as necessary.
The hub also highlights the importance of iteration, where engineers repeatedly test and refine their solutions to improve them. This process is fundamental to STEM education, helping students develop critical thinking and collaboration skills.
