National Science Foundation Grant Awarded: Making Upper Division Mathematics Courses More Relevant for Future High School Teachers Dr. Nick Fortune (Associate Professor of Mathematics) and two colleagues recently had a National Science Foundation Improving Undergraduate STEM Education (IUSE) grant funded.
At the 41st annual Kentucky Association of Blacks in Higher Education Conference, Dr. Kanita DuCloux received the Dr. Joseph H. McMillan Faculty Award, and mathematics major Alexis Pinkston received the William C. Parker Scholarship Award.
Congratulations to our 2023-2024 departmental student award winners! We are proud of their achievements and look forward to hearing about their future accomplishments!

The SIAM Student Chapter is excited to announce a mini workshop on the "Control of Partial Differential Equations." Please see the event flyer for more details. Following the workshop, the chapter will be hosting SIAM's Game Night, which will also include elections for the Executive Board, including the Presidency.

We hosted our Second Annual WKU Math Contest this weekend for high school math students on Saturday. The event was triple the size of last year's inaugural contest!
Students from Barren County, Fort Knox, Greenwood, John Hardin, Muhlenberg County, North Hardin, Russellville, and Warren East high schools competed throughout the morning in different categories at their grade levels.
Our overall individual champions were Bryan Browning of Fort Knox Middle High School and Luke Champion of Greenwood High School! For their efforts, they have each been awarded a $500 scholarship to Western Kentucky University.

The WKU Math Club will be selling t-shirts this semester. In order to do that, we need YOUR ideas! Please submit a sketch/rendering of your t-shirt design(s) to [email protected] by end-of-business on Monday, March 11. WKU Mathematics (or WKU Math) must be mentioned somewhere on the shirt. Various t-shirt design apps can be found online; you can also submit a hand-drawn design.
After the submission deadline, we will post a survey so that people can vote on their favorite t-shirt. The designer of the winning idea will get a free shirt! You do not have to be a Math Club member to submit/win.
